Why is it so much harder than wotr? It's impossible for me to do literally anything and every mob oneshots me. Isn't it supposed to have lower stakes than wotr but for some reason demon lords are much easier to kill than some random rat

you don't get access to a bunch of spellslots for buffs right away. and also because owlcat where assholes and threw wolves that trip you at you right at the start.

no mythic powers
takes longer to level up in general
worse encounter design (WOTR isn't great in this regard but it's better than KM)

act 1 in wotr is all about getting you to level 5 fast. you only spend like 15ish minutes level 1 in the tutorial before you hit level 2. comparatively levels in kingmaker come slowly, hell you likely won't even hit level 20 by endgame.
Anonymous No.717263842
You’re a lot more limited in spell slots, no mythic duration buffs and less regents than wotr.
Wotr difficulty stops existing a few hours in when you can cast immunity to every element and stoneskin on your entire party that lasts 24 hours 30+ times

Wotr xp rewarding is bizzare you pretty much get shot up to like level 9-11 mythic 3 in a few hours by just doing the main quest. Than you’re kind of stuck their until you decide to stop side questing which than it shoots you up to level 18 mythic 8
Niggas who brag about level 20 mythic 10 builds are so funny because you’re at that level for maybe 10 minutes

As opposed to the industry standard difficulty levels in PF:K are what they say they are. The game warns you to don't go above Normal as a newcomer (meaning you're not familiar with the PF ruleset) for a reason. It's also not a coincidence that you can adjust basically anything in Custom difficulty. So if you just picked Hard at the beginning of the campaign and called it a day you won't have a good time as a low-level char who's still learning the game mechanics.

It's unreasonable to demand new players to read fucking books to play the game. It's like making Fallout impossible to play and then say that you should read fallout bible from start to finish to be able to enjoy the game
>>717267409
I'm playing on normal
>>717266154
No they're not if you don't possess metaknowledge. There's a monster that I couldn't damage and that killed everyone in one turn and I googled it and turns out the grease spell just instantly kills him and if you use it it's piss easy but otherwise it's impossible. That's just a shitty game design since it doesn't matter how you build your character since you'll always suck if you don't abuse gimmicky spells like grease
Anonymous No.717268785
Also the game never tells you the recommended lvl of the zones and I always enter zones I'm not supposed to and get oneshotted but once I get 2 levels higher I instantly kill everyone. This is borderline retarded since I'm supposed to just travel around location getting my ass beaten until I stumble upon a low lvl zone

Yes, it's an inherently buff-heavy ruleset but that's not all. Lots of people don't realize shit like they can buff before fights or that True Strike could be a life-changer when you really something to land. If you care about Kingdom Management (and you should, though most don't) it also has nuances that helps you tremendously down the road. PF:K does a poor job of teaching you how the game works and the players often can't figure things out by themselves. The early-game cave that's suppose to teach you the Swarm mechanism is probably the finest example for that in the whole genre. Owlcat had to redesign it 3 times (!) and it still regularly filters newfriends.

Only the first couple of acts are challenging, after level 7 most classes get a huge power boost. Had a lot of fun as a grenadier, Tanglefoot bombs in act 1 with attachable flasks are awesome.

Man i really don’t know. Its been a while but the second half i would just communal stone-skin and ele resistances and just autoattack everything to death. I played a pure wizard demon, and my protag would just double chainlighting with that one fast cast mythic to insta delete every other encounter.
Deskari died in like 3 seconds to wenduag auto attacks.
The games balancing and ruleset just doesn’t work that well compared to adnd in bg

There are 20 control spells 19 of which don't do anything and I'm supposed to have the one exact counter spell at hand even though none of my characters have it and I must backtrack from the dungeon to go to the vendor and find it even though none of the vendors actually sell it so I must get lucky to find a grease wand

Don’t listen to that anon. It is horseshit one random level 1 spell is the only solution but grease is so overpowered that when people say cc spells they pretty much just mean grease.

I was under the impression we're talking about Kingmaker here. I still haven't played Wrath due to my backlog but from what I read it's relation with KM is more apples and oranges than not. Plus you have two separate campaigns that work on a whole different scale, which only adds to the discrepancies. But it's true that both are Pathfinder games and once you understand the basic principles that govern the game it's much easier to get ahead.

>>717268686
>There's a monster that I couldn't damage
Which one? Either way inspecting your enemy is crucial here. Yeah, Grease is a popular CC spell that can be cheesy sometimes; but the main lesson here is that if you noticed that he has a low DEX score and knew that attribute governs Reflex Saving Throws then you'd have intuitively found a tool for that. A Fireball would've landed just the same way on the monster, it's just Grease comes with a CC aspect. Plus if I remember correctly you can ignite it for extra fire damage.

Don't be too hard on yourself, the Barrow is a difficult location compared to how early it can be accessed and he's the crown jewel there. So what do we have here (from top to bottom)?
>extreme STR but average/slightly above average attributes otherwise
>thus Reflex (+5) Saving Throw is the lowest, Will might also worth a shot
>only 13 Touch AC
>constant 3 Damage Reduction (DR) but 5 against Bludgeoning attacks
>Immunities are what they are, keep them in mind
I don' want to go deep into this but Inspecting him gives you a good idea of his weaknesses and how they could be exploited. The DR only applies to non-magical attacks from weapons (hence why you couldn't injure him) but enhanced weapons (+1/+2/etc.) could overcome it. The solution? Magic!
He also has high BAB so he'll land his attacks (especially with Power Attack and Reckless Stance; Cleave for multiple targets), and thanks to his Frosty (+1d6 Cold) Greatsword +1 he hits like a truck. A pure (sky-high AC) tank with extras (Mirror Image etc.) is your best shot with a secondary on the side for emergency.
Grease from a proficient spellcaster (high casting Ability, possibly Spell Focus or even Greater SF on Conjuration) indeed goes a long way here as it solves multiple issues, but a Scorching Ray (targets Touch AC, so it's easy to land and bypasses his DR) would've also been devastating. Specialization often pays dividends tenfold.

Owlcat are sweats for encounter design but then give you companions with dogshit rp builds.
Just knock it down to normal and pick an easy strong class like slayer or strength vivisectionist.
Also don't use turn based mode, I have nothing to base it on but I swear your hit chance is way worse in that mode.

Turn based mode is much easier because you can properly control the party and aim AoE spells.
