I think the main problems with deck are short battery life, 800p resolution might be a bit too small, and its cpu+hpu has problems running newest and future games.

I finally played around with steam remote play. That shit is pretty cool. Games look objectively better when streamed from my main rig. I thought I had no problem with it when I first played MH Wilds. Tried again later that and DQ3, and it just wasn't working properly. Is this stuff just not super reliable?

No, I don't want to bother with moonlight or sunshine or whatever. I don't want to remote play that badly.

Not at all, it’s been my primary gaming machine since I got it back in late 2022, and the amount of games I’ve played has skyrocketed, though admittedly I’d already started to make an effort to play more new games than I had been.

Actually I do. Put a ton of work into it customizing and setting it up with windows as a dual boot for CoD and other slop.
Then the left bumper button (know weakness of the LCD model) and low and behold you can't get the parts to replace it.

No moron. The actual 3 prong bumper button thats micro soldered onto the daughter board. It's a piss poor design that even valve admitted and changed it in the OLED model.
You can't get the boards from any reputable source. So, you risk buying shit eBay and hoping it works, or you're just fucked.

Based. I had a good laugh when Valve reported that a ton of Deck owners would have been willing to pay for a premium version had the option been available. If OLED was an option Day 1, you better believe I would have thrown my money towards that one.

No I'm actually heavily considering buying one
I have a fine enough PC that I will still use as my primary device, but I wonder if I should get the cheaper LED Deck or the more expensive OLED with general improvements to stuff like battery life. Mainly I like the idea of a chunky PSP-esque Linux device that lets me play older games in bed.

no, but i lament ive come very obsessed with customizing game controls

i started playing more games that already have controller support, but uh oh, my stupid brain still finds flaws to "fix"

>man Castlevania Dominus Collection accepts mouse inputs and controller inputs at the same time haha, would it be fun to add gyro controls so i can use touch controls AND control the character at the same time?
>oh you can change magic books in Harmony of dissonance without pausing the game? what if i make that a directional swipe on the touchpad for easy access?

oh and there are still PC games installed on my steam deck with unfinished controller setups

Because it is always out of stock. When it is in stock it's for a very limited time. I'm talking a few hours at most. If you want one you have to setup twitter to get notified if they are in stock. That's how I got mine. Check both twitter and reddit for refurbished mentions, every day.

Freedom of movement. I can play it on my side, switch sides, move to my couch, or any other room. The sleep mode pauses the game and I can pick up and play it anywhere I like. The rare times I do travel, it’s more convenient. And I just prefer handhelds in general, sitting in a relatively fixed position any time I want to game isn’t enjoyable for me.

i should make more guides promoting my controller setups

because the Steam controller config sharing interface is STILL complete ass, and i think some of these configs are legitimately very good

im particularly proud of my Legend of Grimrock 2 config, beat the game on hard with it

Yes because gabe lied and released the oled shortly after. And before you say technically that's not a deck 2, the truth is no one should buy the original deck when the oled is available. It offers more than just the screen and is a univeral improvement.

Did you at least buy the Deck AFTER the other 2? There's really no point in getting an Xbox or PlayStation anymore. Xbox has been dropping all their games on PC on day 1 for years and it looks like Sony is gearing to do the same fairly soon.

I'd say you should have a beefy Desktop, a Steam Deck to compliment it, and a Switch for the exclusives.

GeForce Now works like a dream, but I don't want to pay $20 a month for to stream my library when the selection is already so gimped (i.e. no Rockstar or Sony games).

Yeah. I also have a weird work schedule where I'm at the office 2 hours later than the rest of my team so that I can be on call to support teammates in other timezones. They usually don't need me for much though, so once the floor clears out I dock my Deck to one of the big monitors and kill time til I can leave.

It's big, but that's a selling point for me if I'm being honest.

Probably because I already had a laptop that was 3x as strong and got 99% of the same experience just connecting a bluetooth controller to it. I had one on my LCD. I ended up taking it off and have yet to scratch it after a year or so. It’s not a phone where you’re going to put it in your pocket so it really has no excuse to get scratched. I like screen protectors mainly for absorbing shock if it falls and hits the ground

I had a shitload of old CS:GO crates that were sitting in my inventory that wound up being worth a few bucks a piece. I sold them all and cashed out with a Steam Deck.

My only regret is that I didn't wait a few more weeks to buy because they had that random sale that put them on ~30% off.

At some point (I'd argue we are already there) games will have slower graphical improvements than handheld graphical improvements, at which point they converge and all new games will run easily on handhelds. Nvidia sees and knows this which is why they leave gaming behind and have become the highest valued company of all time simply on the back of the AI race. At some point powerful desktops will strictly be used for development and AI.

Not that anon. You can do this, but that doesn't mean it's not a pain in the ass to have to do this in the first place. Even more so since you have to have both devices where you want to play on at the same time when you want to transfer the save file. I usually can't tell if the save file automatically transferred so I have the program opened until I see it did it. I've done it for DS2 and classic monster hunter games. It's technically easy, but it's annoying.

Not by much all things considered. You either turn into a hunchback sitting on your sofa that is now no longer comfy, or blug in a controller so you can recline on it, but laptop screens are tiny so now you need a bigger screen et cetera et cetera
Either get a handheld or an actual PC, no reason to have a laptop. It's a dogshit middle option with no pros of either side and all the drawbacks.

Most of the stuff I still play came out years ago or are so small in size any toaster could run them. I wanted something less bulky than a laptop and the thing works fine. Mostly play rom hacks and fan games these days, great for visual novels too. The main positive is just being able to bring almost every game I enjoy where ever I go now.
