Japanese Third parties are still chugging along and doing great.
Square Enix and Final Fantasy are still the top dog when it comes to JRPGs. All this without Nintendo.
Just because Nintendo found some success does not mean he won, or that others are doing bad.

He stated the same shit three times, once in 1997 right when the PS was raping the N64 with FF7 and other games, then in the early 2000 commenting about how graphics weren't important while praising DQ7, and then in the mid 2000 when japanese games in the 6th gen weren't making as much money as before, the first two times where pure unfiltered cope while the third time was a something that could have been seen in the 6th (not because developers where prioritizing graphics over gameplay) gen as many japanese developers barely made full 3d games on the 5th gen this would hurt them greatly in the 6th gen, it wasn't until the mid 2000 when the japanese started fully embracing making full 3D games instead of pre-fixed cameras or mazes full of brainless enemies, all this shit was going on while the west was already pulling shit like Spyro or Syphon Filter on the PS1, because of this western developers had a great advantage over the Japs, specially on the 7th gen where Japs got butt raped by Western developers.
Also his statement is BS now days since Nintendo themselves increased the price of games even more than other companies.

Way to just ignore context outright, those Square Enix JRPGs selling "well" isn't in the context of their budgets, Square Enix are constantly complaining that games cost too much to make while doubling down on big budget shit that nobody wants and while ignoring Nintendo hardware
Those Sony games selling "well" also ignores the budgets they have, their discounts and them being bundled with Playstation consoles, which are all treated equally when calculating sales, Sony have also moved to porting their games to other hardware in order to increase profitability of titles, and it's not just some obscure title that failed at it's initial launch, it's always Sony's biggest titles getting this treatment.
Japanese third parties are increasingly complaining about balooning budgets and lower sales all the while ignoring Nintendo hardware.
