It's somehow the laziest DLC he's made for the world that should demand the most rigor.

The way Dung Eater's chest armor words it, he probably lost sight of grace a long time ago. Goldmask's meanwhile doesn't word it as grace at all, but as "brilliant inspiration." It's definitely a clue-in that the character has an ending available to them but it's also not a sure thing since Fia and others don't reference that sun theming or the blurb about "where that guidance will take them."

You can have ambition as a Tarnished, whether you're seeing grace or not doesn't really have any bearing on that. It's more seemingly whether you've become disillusioned with the actual Elden Lord throne, or disillusioned with Marika, probably moreso the former because you as a player can take basically any approach you want in regards to Marika including spurning her outright.

The Dung Eater is probably doing all of this half on accident.
