What's the point of 8BitDo Pro 3 hype, when there already exists a controller/gamepad that does the layout changing better? No need to remove buttons with magnetic tool (provided with Pro3) when you can just press a button on GameSir's Tarantula Pro, and the layout just rotates
A friend was having problem playing RDR on switch with default switch layout, I imagine it's same for GTA games. So any games made for PS style layout will benefit from ABXY layout, but if you try playing game like splatoon on such layout you will quickly find it very difficult (right button, B, for jumping? get out of here)
Those gears will eventually break
Can anyone confirm if picrel actually works? So you just press button and now you're suddenly playing switch games with different layout?
>>717287849I sure hope it will. I put an order on one of these. I was looking forward to Pro 3, but this thing already exists and looks so cool. Worst thing to happen I might end up buying both, not end of the world.
>>717287473 (OP)Surely there are controllers that allow you to switch layout without all that gimmick but costs 0.1x the price?
What is the use case for rotating face buttons? B and A swapped places. Now what?
Most modern games finally rediscovered the ancient technology of "redefine controls in options menu". Lazy PC ports will just direct you to Steam's input menu to fiddle with definitions there. I'm positively sure you can use some utility to redefine gamepad buttons without steam, too.
It sure looks funky to have those gears in there and all that, but I think redefining controls on software level is far better idea, because you can also move keys all around, not just clockwise and counter clockwise.
8bitdo has better dpads and is better built
>>717288393This controller is also supposed to be compatible with the Switch, so it's good if you want a single controller for both PC and Switch games.
>>717288393You can only switch places of A and B on switch (from OS) per controller basis (so you have to keep returning to change setting if you play different game), but there's nothing that you can do about X and Y. Switch has Y on left by default, but there are games I prefer X to be on the left. And many of the games on switch you can't remap controls
I mean look at that thing... GEARS, FUCKING GEARS. When was the last time you've seen gears? Those thing used to belong to wrist watches, but how many people these days have wrist watches, let alone one where you can see the gears?
what kind of mongoloid do you have to be that you need to keep looking down at your controller to remember what buttons to press?
>>717288716You don't if you only play with one layout, but some games are clearly better suited for certain layout, so playing with the layout intended for the game is the way to go.
>>717288840thats not a different layout. the buttons just have different letters on them. if your A button is jump, then switch the buttons, your B button is now jump, but its still the same button, it just looks different. i dont have an existential crisis when i emulate ps1 games on my xbox controller, so why is this a necessary feature?
problem is not all devs who port games to switch keep the action button in same place. If we assume right button if for something, and down button is for something (in PS/xbox/PC) , it might be completely different on switch if the dev didn't make it right for switch, so the "jump" and "acttion" button might be on the different direction than if you played it on another system, and thus confuse you. RDR2 player was struggling to play RDR1 on switch because the switch must have functions at different places than he's used to when playing it on his own non-switch console or whatever.
>>717289070If some game has A for jump in Xbox version (and X on PS version), if the dev doesn't do good enough job on the port, the jump might not be on B, but instead of "right side". I think at least Rockstar's ports might have this problem
The problem is not so much looking at the buttons, it's the fact that you have to press different direction buttons in some of the games ported on switch, than if you play game game on different console or PC
It goes without saying that this might be a switch only problem because other system players will never have to play games "meant for switch layout".
>>717289164it doesnt change the actual input though. its purely visual.
>>717289742Are you sure? have you used this controller?
>>717287473 (OP)I played vampire with survivors with this. The thumbstick touches the pastic housing at full extension. I moved in circles so many times I have worn a groove into the stick shaft. I can feel it every time I move the stick.
>>717289830If it changed both the input and the visual, swapping the buttons for Switch mode would have you pressing the bottom (B) button when a Switch game asks for A. There's zero point in it being anything but visual.

>>717289830i havent, but i know how controllers work. if it did indeed change the input, then the controller would effectively have 8, separately mapped face buttons. and modern systems cannot be tricked into using more buttons than it thinks you have. anyone thats used a controller with extra buttons on pc knows this. you always have to bind them to keyboard keys or macros to use them.
also, theres this picture of the gamesir software.
>>717287473 (OP)Good morning gamesir
>>717290394But anon, isn't that exactly what's happening? on switch game where B is for jump, you press "down".. on a port where they didn't port it to switch layout... well you're pushing "down" again, because that's where the "A" is now.
>>717288430>8bitdo is better builtlol
lmao
>>717290676I can only go by my first hand experience. They are a little behind first party controllers but better then game sir and other full chink brands
Not to say 8bitdo is zero chink, it's like half chink. You never go full chink
>>717290459I think it might have some kind of profile thing going. I have a wireless 8bitdo controller that works with adapter, and despite it having ABXY layout, it gets recognized as some kind of generic switch layout controller, meaning it's actually BAYX despite what's written on the controller (when using it on switch, which you normally couldn't do, because you're using separately bought adapter to hook it with switch, the wireless editions don't work on switch "out of the box"). This leads me to think that Gamesir tarantula pro might be changing profiles when pressing the button, so it works as ABXY or BAYX depending which profile is active. Afaik if that's true, it's only controller capable of doing that. My other ABXY controller works fine because it's recognized without issues, but I can never turn it into BAYX controller, this one seems to be capable of doing both layouts.
What's the point of this shit at all? Are you going to keep looking down on the buttons like a grandma?
>>717290824I've had every single friend of mine who owned an 8bitdo controller tell me they broke after a few months. They are just as poor quality chinkshit as the rest of them.

>>717288716youre still pressing the south button. it doesnt matter if the pretty little graphic on it says A or B.
>>717290928a game where A is for jumping is going to be silly to play on a switch controller, where "down button" is B, and A is on the right side. If we assume X would be action button in such game, instead of pressing left, you instead have to press up instead. Do you not see how this can get confusing, sub-optimal way to play the game?
>>717290939What controller are they using? I have almost 10 year old SNES style controllers from them that work. My original Pro that's like what 5 years old still works great.
I dunno what to tell you. Are these friends of yours just discord troons or something?
>>717291032No I'm not pressing "south button" every time. If I'm playing splatoon with ABXY controller, you have to press "right", because that's where B is on ABXY, and B is for jumping on splatoon (you jump on splatoon with "down" on switch layout controller). Imagine playing GTA, do you wont to press a game designed "A for jumping", "downwards", do you want to press "right side" instead just because you're playing on switch? No, you get the ABXY controller for such games.
>>717290939i have 6 million friends in my big family who own 1488 8bitdo controllers each and they all work perfectly fine. Wanna exchange more anecdotes?
>>717291049>>717291178im starting to understand. youre just a console babby that cannot conceptualize the idea of button remapping. you just think
>button says A. it must ALWAYS be the A button in everything.so the idea of *moving* the A button is revolutionary to you.
I noticed on game scarlet tower.. the "action" button that actually matters in X, and Y is for discard. Well I found X is better to be on left, and Y on top, cause left is easier to press and is closer home to action button (usually bottom or left, while right is cancel/B). But that only works with ABXY controller, if I play the game on switch with Switch controller, the X is on top, and "discard items" button Y is on the left
>>717291049It's just labels, how fucking retarded are you?
You can use an Xbox-styled 8bitdo Ultimate on Switch, press bottom button A and it registers as B on switch
By your logic Playstation gamepads are unusable on anything else because they have weird symbols instead of letters. What an absolute fucking troglodyte you are, holy shit.
>>717291457You couldn't remap buttons on switch 1, and even on Switch 2 you can only remap A/B, not X/Y , and it makes no sense menu hopping control settings to change layouts per game basis. Ideally you have a controller for both layouts, but even better is if you have 1 single controller that lets you change between the two layouts, not because it's "cheaper", but because "it's cool".
>>717287473 (OP)neat but it seems totally unnecessarily and overly complication and maybe prone to break easily. After playing a few hours anyone can memorize the various button layouts and you shouldn't be looking down at them anyway.
I have one.
Layout changing is useless unless you're 6 years old and have to look at the controller
Battery life is pretty mediocre.
It doesn't even serve to remember what mode you left it on since everything other than Switch mode uses the xbox layout.
>>717291609>You couldn't remap buttonsexactly, so it doesnt matter. the south button is the south button. flipping the picture on the button wont stop it from being the south button.
>>717291581>press bottom button A and it registers as B on switchNope, I have Gamesir's T3 Lite, A is A, so if I press down on Splatoon, it doesn't jump.
I just did a test, a third part switch layout controller, down B press jumps. On GameSir Tegenaria Lite / T3 Lite in order to jump on Splatoon, you have to press "right", the B is right side on Splatoon.

>>717292274You're baiting right?
>>717290459 >>717290886Here's the 8BitDo Ultimate's first edition, using the Nintendo layout.
There is a particular quirk with how the controller is programmed that fucks with the inputs while in xinput mode. If you were to use the controller's Macro system, the face buttons shift to Nintendo layout during the macro playing out. If you were to press a face button while a macro was running, the A face button would register an A as though it were interpreting a Switch input.
After this, 8BitDo used the xbox face button layout for some Ultimate 2 controllers, but it's quite possible that this "input mode crossover" issue may still exist in more recent revisions.

Don't think I need or want any fancy gimmicks, but some long lasting quality would be nice. My dualsense is finally really showing stick drift on both sides.
>>717319139>dome switch d-padIs the D-pad better than the Pro 2's?
>>717320370Seems fine, dunno how it will last long term.
>>717320741Don't know, haven't actually tried it. Heard good things about 8bitdo's implementation of membrane over dome switch but I was holding out for a symmetrical controller.
>>717319062What do you use it for?
>>717322329Mega Man and Contra
>>717322370>Mega Man and ContraYeah well anything works for games where the most complicated motion is a double press, but it's just too squishy and imprecise for fighting game motion inputs or wave dashes
>>717322620you dont really need that much shit to play shitty WWE games either
>>717293109That's so pointless. I want it to actually move the A button signal to come from the right button so I don't have to rebind controls in the emulator. Is there a single controller with SNES layout where you don't have to remember to also change the controls in the emulator?
