Narita Taishin's mandatory mood down and practice poor halfway thru her career was not a jumpscare I expected. However, winning Nikkei Sho and getting tons of stats up, 1-4 mood up and practice perfect was a welcomed surprise.
Overall her career is fun and she performs, at least for me, better than Golshi as a end or late runner. If you pulled her, use her.

yeah class 5 is already a lot of whale opps
there's no real answer other than as much as you after reaching stam reqs
you can gamble and only meet the stam reqs for the shortest distances to maximise the other stats
i went with meeting stam reqs for highest variations and beating the teams that didn't - when i get given the longer versions of the races
i would set a team spot with one that had enough stam, then grind out improvements to each one by one
if you trust your stam, you wait until you see an opp that doesn't have enough stam (whale or not, usually they've gone heavy wit) and use your consumables
F2P team trials in class 5/6 is a lot of losing, but you only need one good score per week

All you need is encounter one team with worse stats/worse mood than yours, then you use a parfait to get a great mood for your team then you can get 5 wins in a row to guarantee your promotion/position in your current class.
You could also cheese it by making a stamina based team and use the rain item to make the stamina requirements even harsher so your opponent runs out of stamina before your horses for easy wins.
