Sounds good. Combat was a boring slog in the first games, except for the first couple of minutes of SH1 when you have no ammo, and SH3.
Fatal Frame has a heavy focus on combat with parries yet nobody ever complains about that franchise.

I don't play SH games for the combat, I play them for the atmosphere. The real question to me is if it's even going to feel like like I'm playing an actual horror game and not an action game with horror elements.

Combat doesn't seem that much of a focus. You get no EXP or resources from it. You only fight when necessery. Game seems design around managing resources and health items so you can get them to shrines to level up stats and get amulets with buffs.

I'm more interested in this "appeal to younger audiences" line of thinking.

Is this meant to imply the current gen of gamers who haven't had Silent Hill for 10 years or does it mean it more literally in that they want actual children to play it? Because kids will play any edgy dark horror games regardless of how badly it plays without issue.

So I think it's meant to mean appeal to the generation of gamers who missed out on the later Silent Hills, who were probably 8-10 when Downpour came out so would be in their early 20s when the new games started coming.

And that means making it more approachable as a horror game, turning it more into action-horror instead of survival-horror.

Which leaves us in a funny possibility where Poppy Playtime is more of a traditional horror game than the new Silent Hill outings.

He's right but bloober midwits are the majority now. I haven't cared for silent hill since origin came out. The 2 remake brought with it nothing besides tards calling it genius for worsening the game or validating their faggy theories. Something new and diffrerent isn't a bad thing. It just depends on its execution. F can be bad, but it already has more worth and value than 2 remake.

Konami hasn't "invested heavily" they whored out the ip to bloober and are doing the bare minimum. I've lived in japan for years and its crazy seeing the way people talk about konami in the states. They probably make and spend more on bombergirl which typically has lines for new drops and recently shine post was popular here.

Sure but if the monsters are appropriately designed the game would've looked better. The thing is, Silent Hill monsters(except bosses) are pathetic in a sense that most are not that aggressive and arguably weaker than you. They are creatures in constant pain and you can pretty much dodge and avoid them if possible. Silent Hill F's monsters on the other hand are very aggressive and immediately lock on to you.

I don't care for it. The Silent Hill series has been bumbling about, trying to come up with a combat system that doesn't suck since its very beginning and never even came close to succeeding.

I maintain that Shattered Memories had the right idea by removing it entirely.
