I just think it's all really cool. Everything with shido and cognitive psience and these elusive evil government people controlling everything all tying together with you and your friends' lives as your group becomes more and more popular for rising up against them is such a great concept and i think they pulled it off pretty well. i love the themes of rebellion and free will and society and all that. And then to top it all off with maruki who was kino enough to still be debated over years later is even better.
To me its by far the most interesting and engaging plot compared to what 3 and 4 had, not that those are bad. so it's always baffling when i see the long angry greentexts going over reasons why every single aspect of the writing is le bad lmao

Of course they do, 99% of high school animes have some shit in them about doing well in exams so that they can go to a prestigious college.
You just don't see much anime about college days because Japan has an infatuation with youth, school uniforms and strict schedules, none of that is present in college. Japanese college is hard to get into, but once you do, it's basically impossible to flunk out and everyone just kind of fucks around for 4 years before they go into the work force grinder.

That being said, Grand Blue is a fun read/watch if you want a college anime.

Yes, characters with interesting motives, motivations, and goals. The high school game is written better and well thought out as a game than their favorite series. hahahaha. These days, Maruki would be a bullet sponge. Everyone copies this game, the hook to get around, the animation style mix that every animated movie is doing now and it never had to do anything extra. You can play this game over and over and have fun.
