There was nothing wrong with motion controls, only with unrebindable controls.
By contrast there was a lot wrong with the 360 and PS3 pretending to be performant machines with controllers that could play complex 3D games, since it resulted in heavy stagnation and degradation. Games aimed at consoles mostly played themselves after a certain point.

Saturn should have gotten everything the PSX did instead of it. It was a better console, twice as powerful, didn't do transparency and used quads. Saturn should have used Arcade Model 2 (Sega Rally) board though. Might have saved games if it did. Real time. Fast. Reflexes. Trying. Initially expensive is fine. It means it's still viable a decade down the line. And devs can aim high. Means it gets games. Push it regardless of success and people with taste can get something for them.
Several families chipping in for something they take turns with is a better system too. Have friends, have sleepovers, the person who's house is slept over has the best. Kids go to one house for a week, others prepare to have activities etc ready. No kid misses out on having friends. Adults can organise and socialise too. Have something to break the ice. Should be more of such stuff. Eg share a shed to store stuff, make stuff, have a break, do things.
