Meira is a ninja. Or rather, she works as part of the Ninja clans of Gensokyo. Made up of the former Taro merchant family of the village, who lost all of their power when the Oni left Youkai mountain, they are made up mostly of people who were, for whatever reason, exiled from the human village. Outsiders raised from birth to be killing machines, religious cultists worshipping demons and dark gods, and exiled Youkai exterminators. Most of them work as Ninjas for Youkai, using their skill and power to work as assassins and spies where a youkai minion would not suffice.
Meira herself was a former Youkai exterminator. She was always considered weak and rather average, despite her skill with a blade and her sharp will. But all of that changed when she found a great dark blade in a ancient temple. Giving her a weapon of immense power that could steal the very power of both people and youkai.
Slowly but certainly the weapon started to corrupt her. Making her desire to shed the blood and more and more people and youkai to gain stronger. Making her more bloodthirsty and violent. Eventually she turned the cursed blade on one of her colleagues, stealing their power. This crime saw her exiled not just as a Youkai exterminator but from the human village itself. Since then, she's been working as a Ninja. Seeking to steal more powers to one day become strong enough to return to the human village and rule it as it's ruler.
