They were a window into the big world of gaming.
New from all around the world. What's happening in the EU, US and Japan.
Now I don't need them. They are outtaded for several reasons.
>Internet has better News, more News, faster News
>not written by woke journalists
>for free

I miss the good old times, but I don't miss the literal concept

Honestly yeah. I had Game Informer when I was little and it was so cool to flip through and see all the cool art and promotions for games. It might be utdated, but I feel like the ads and game pages were so much more creative and cool looking.

Nah, looking back I realize they were nothing but advertisements you had to pay for. Not that today's games "journalism" is worth a shit, but at least now you have many better ways to get information about new games.

I still cringe when I think about my favorite games magazine from back when I was a kid. They literally had every Nintendo game reviewed by a guy with Nintendo tattoos. They didn't even pretend to be unbiased.

They at least attempted to make advertisements entertaining back then, as a way to entice people to view them. Now, the meta is to make the advertisements so intrusive that they can't be escaped, and as obnoxious as possible to count toward their propaganda quota, and get that blackrock money, because they sure as hell aren't selling more of them to YOU with this. It's all so fake and gay.

Yeah that's true about advertising in general, not just for games.

The 90s were really the perfect era for advertising. I mean ads were always kinda shitty but at least back then they often made a genuine effort to make advertisements that people would want to watch instead of the current year's constant PRODUCT IS CULTURE PRODUCT IS IMAGE PRODUCT IS IDENTITY YOU LOVE PRODUCT BUY IT NOW

It may have been crass but I genuinely enjoyed reading the fictional Universe that GameFan magazine had going on with Monitaur and Postmeister.

This ad isn't from a gaming magazine. It was printed in FHM, a men's lifestyle magazine.

I miss analogue media in general. Everyone had the same information. Not a bunch of nebulous algorithms making sure people only hear what they want to hear.

Absolutely not, this time period sucked ass and people blindly accepted being told absolute garbage is good. To this day retards are nostalgic for being ignorant and being told what to think while not realizing it, chasing an era that doesn't exist because they can't realize how retarded they are.

This is like the most soulless consumer cattle era in all of human history.

In a way I do since it appealed to the young teens that liked hot chicks and kinda edgy humor. Old gaming magazines was filled with ads with these aspects and while I wasn't able to get them myself at the time, I still chuckle seeing screenshots of these old ads and how much they tried to grab your attention. I really think they are endearing now even though it would make most modern people mad

I miss when magazines were independent curated by passionate people and not just some person that went to journalism school, played some games as a kid and then joined some company that needed someone for their just opened "Gamers Corner."
Gaming magazines still exist today but they are held up more by a corporation than folks running on donations. Although some obscure ones still exist as well in non-US American countries

double edged sword. rush to get any information out no matter the context or confirmation. more urge for click bait
i believe a certain speed of information should go about. every so often a presentation of information, imho, is better.

PSM had a lot of soul for it's first year or two, it went downhill once it started focusing on shilling PS2, the magazine got a lot slicker and corporate.

The writers stayed on topic, and were actually enthusiastic about video games.
Also they had really cool features that were super informative and interesting.

Yes. It's why, even though I don't care much about achievement hunting, I still follow the RA Newsletter. While it's really only the cover image that tries to directly channel part of the old magazines (and sometimes that can be a bit phoned in too), the content inside is still of a similar vein with all the write-ups of news, reviews, secrets, strategies, community art (even though it's ALL TERRIBLE), and so on.
