CD Projekt Red screwed over the Cyberpunk 2077 fanbase by launching a broken game in 2020, delaying key features and promised content, and abandoning meaningful updates for last-gen players. They hyped a living, breathing cyberpunk world, then left us with a glitchy shell for months. They do not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
I need some competent studio to make an actual cyberpunk RPG like the one that was promised. Unfortunately there are no competent studios in the West anymore, and nips wouldn't be able to do it properly either.

>>717361610The day/night cycle shouldn't be in your game if your NPCs don't have a schedule. The game only utilizes it three times for missions. Redundant.
Remember that night city was called such because it was meant to be filled with so much pollution that you never saw daylight. Devs fucked it up from the start because they decided to follow the GTA trend.
>>717358171 (OP)One of my friends (legit has IQ problems) was loving the game at release on older gen (the console where it eventually got removed from because it was so bad). I feel like in a way he represents most consumers. Happy to fill his life with absolute garbage if it had cool advertising.

I bought and played this recently because it was on sale. I had obviously seen all of the reviews, the letdowns, the actual gameplay and generally seen enough to not be disappointed with what I got
2077, with no expectations for it to be any groundbreaking RPG, is a solid 7/10 game. it's fine. Fun, in a lot of places. But, it was over hyped and undercooked. Keanu Reeves is likeable as Silverhand, and I guess he got them good publicity, but I can't see that the character would have been any less interesting if he had been played by Some Guy. The game would have been better served if they had spent the money and a little more time polishing the game they actually made.

If you took the specs for running 2077 but had the graphics at PS1 or PS2 level you'd have a lower cost shorter dev cycle with everything you listed.
>>717365992Weapon trees are still in the game. Body gets shotguns/lmgs, reflex gets ARs/SMGs, etc.
The problem is that they changed all the skills from
>makes you better with shooting this gun typeto
>do some active ability to get this situational benefitWhich on paper sounds more engaging, but in practice it means you HAVE to play in a specific way to derive any benefit from skills.
So with shotguns, your capstone skill gives you a damage boost if and only if you melee smack people after shooting them. Your shotgun playstyle basically requires shoot-melee-shoot-melee. Or the SMG capstone is no reloads but you need two SMGs to switch between. Thereโs just no flexibility in how you actually play because so many skills dictate what you have to do rather than what you can do.
A counterexample is Quake for blunt weapons, which is awesome.

I'm playing this game for the first time right now. I'm having fun, but it's really striking that this game feels very mis-marketed. V is mostly a very preset character. He's a lot closer to the type of protagonist that Geralt is rather than a typical WRPG create-a-character, like the Baldur's Gate 3 protagonist. You have some choices but frequently the options all make sense in the context of who V is as you meet him in act 1. Your background is shown on all your saves but it doesn't seem to affect anything but an occasional optional dialog choice.
The RPG mechanics of the game is really more about what method of violence you use.
I'm already at 20 Intelligence and then I've got Technical Ability up to 10. Reflex is at 8 i think, I'm trying to get both of those up since they seem like the most important for dialog options and opening optional doors.
I recently got the double jump implant which makes it feel like a different game. Any other really cool optional mechanics i should know about?
One complaint I do have is the difficulty. I'm on Very Hard but you can really destroy people with mind hacks and smart weapons. You can also cheat stealth with hacks because Memory Wipe makes you selectively invisible.

>>717375046I'm a kiwi appreciator but the Becca is a child! faggots need to fuck off
If I liked Deus Ex, Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, will I like this? My biggest gripe with the aforementioned games are that I really really like stealth, and I felt that having the option to be covert, while also having the option to be overt, led to the games feeling like a somewhat mediocre mix of both. If they chose one or the other, the games could have been designed properly around one style, and it could have excelled. Of course, I enjoyed the games, and I enjoyed that they tried, I just felt that it left a lot to be desired for stealth gameplay.
>>717369204Neither version would be good because:

>>717375504My argument is that the daytime looks like shit because they didn't bother to tweak the post-processing to make it look less shit, Anon. It's got nothing to do with the location. The RGG example was just an example, not because of the location, but because a developer that works primarily in nighttime (bars, criminal activity) started always doesn't tweak the daytime (Dragon engine looks like SHIT in the daytime) becuase they can't be assed to post-process daytime.
>>717376018You have shit taste, so probably not.

>>717389927>the reveal being far more open-ended and the game narrowing in scope further and further as the development went onI've said it before, but the insistence on voice acting really hamstrings these A/RPGs. It's just not possible to have those sprawling branching non-linear narratives we used to get with CRPGs back in the 90s and 2000s if you have to have 100 actors doing voice work. Any small re-write needs to be VA'd again, often at great expense, as opposed to just typing out some new written dialogue.
I really hope games can get away from this trend, though with AI voices probably being a thing very soon I imagine it'll get better but not in a good way.
>>717390019Yeah people are burglarized everyday, and it's rightfully made illegal and prosecuted. The very fact that his behavior has become so prominent among devs and publishers is only more reason to punish it

I'm sure they wanted to make that, but were too ambitious and couldn't, similarly to peter molyneux and todd howard

>>717390327I was stupid enough to buy the game on release. I finished it once on release and got halfway through it after trying it again a few months ago.
The bugs were never the issue for me. The issue was that the game was just mediocre.
Minimal, tacked on skill tree, little to no interactivity in the open world, whiney voiced protag, okay story but I personally don't think it holds up for a second playthrough. Oh and even the fixed cop spawns and behavior are abysmal. Rockstar did that better over a decade ago.
>>717390330Nah, some people refuse to remember that this game was being touted as so revolutionary that is was basically an earlier instance of Ubisoft's "first AAAA game" claim.

>>717390709wtf does Poland have to do with it? The game is in a shithole southern California city

>>717390709I want to visit Europe sometime and I'm going to go to places like Poland, Austria, Albania, stuff like that. Not going to waste me time in the big city because they're gay everywhere
>>717390689The fact that it isn't GTA has no bearing on how a police wanted system should operate. The police should pursue you, and they should behave in a way that is somewhat believable and (at least appears to be) intelligent. This makes the interactions with the police enjoyable for the player.
At launch the system simply didn't exist, with police simply spawning infront of you when wanted.
After three years of post launch development, the overall system has improved, which isn't saying much, but is still subpar and disappointing to engage with. The roadblocks was a nice addition, but the police AI is lobotomized to the point of it feeling like being chased by lemmings rather than a police force trying to catch a man that just through a grenade into a crowd full of dancing trannies at a street party
>>717390957I played the fuck out of this game and never had that problem, because I wasn't pretending it was GTA.

There is nothing strange or unusual about a player provoking the wanted level to attack and escape the police in Cyberpunk, either purely for the wanted level of through interaction with the open world. CDPR failed to make this experience even acceptable, let alone good.
>>717391532You're wrong. Totally wrong.

>>717387527>>717387569It seems you're focused on your particular version of cyberpunk - the aesthetic. All the themes are current day realities extrapolated into the future with exaggerated aspects of that reality examining potential dangers of the current course of history. How that translates aesthetically is extremely up to the artist, as no single style definitively and objectively represents those underlying themes.
>>717393679>no single style definitively and objectively represents those underlying themesWrong. Look up Blade Runner.

I feel like the only good thing about it is the city. Everything else (story, gameplay, level design) is very mediocre. To be honest the game is very overhyped, but it's not *that* bad. They shouldn't have started the entire marketing campaign because people got too high expectations.
>>717396440>based on your experience It is a fact that Blade Runner wrote the book on cyberpunk aesthetics, and any game advertising itself as such should have matched or exceeded it and not replaced with an inferior style used by unrelated genres in an effort to appeal to fans of GTA.
>and irrelevant to my judgementsYour opinion is literally meaningless. The qualities of works advertised as fitting a certain genre are judged based on the exemplars of that genre, i.e., Neuromancer, Blade Runner, Deus Ex, etc, and not on your subjective opinion of the game you are clearly biased towards defending. If the game was called "Night City 2077," it could be seperated from this consideration; however, they decided to call it "Cyberpunk 2077" which naturally caused it to be judged based on what came before. Finally, considering what came before was better in almost every possible metric, it is perfectly reasonable to have expected it to be better than it is.
>>717396948>NeuromancerIt is interesting how much stuff was lifted wholesale from Neuromancer by Pondsmith when he first wrote CP2013.
>Night City (Neuromancer)>A narrow borderland of older streets, dividing Chiba Port and city (not clear if the city is Chiba City or Tokyo). Whether business became careless, lazy or slow, or too fast and daring, it is an unforgiven mistake. Those ending up dead, end up in the clinic tanks as organ transplants.>Ninsei is its center. Cheap Hotel and the cheapest coffins (capsule hotels) are those nearest the port, beneath the quartz-halogen floods that light the docks.
>>717396256>The evil corporate elites who funded Cyberpunk would hate your ideas! Therefore, you must find support from fictional rightwing billionaires so I can say you're just like them! Checkmate!Right...
>>717381770you haven't played the game
>>717394619>I expect it to look like all good CyberpunkYou mean you expect it to look like your expectations of specific entries in the genre of cyberpunk. You like Neo-Noir, and that's fine. A cyberpunk author like Bruce Sterling doesn't really fit your definition, despite being probably the most prolific of the genre writers.
CP2013/2020 (which 2077 is based on) has always had a "Style over Substance" approach to the aesthetic. A Hair-Metal-meets-Bowie-meets-MadMax thing. There's a whole section you can read about on the wiki if you're interested.

>>717390092 it's the VA which kills these games (and a never-ending pursuit for graphical fidelity). Drop the VA except for choice phrases or moments, and current studios could easily make this.
>>717396847I feel like the worst thing about the game is the city. Combat's fine, stealth is okay, but the atmosphere is all off.
>>717364905Microsoft just needs to give Fallout to a different studio.
>>717396163Doing this right after Cyberpunk gained some good will back after Edgerunners was hilarious
>>717404625I'm still puzzled how the anime even helped the game's image, considering Trigger had to fight to keep one character (I think it was the twin tailed one?) because CDPR wanted her gone for being too sexy.
>>717405076>CDPR wanted her gone for being too sexy. They wanted her to be gone because she was a "loli"
But the anime makers said either the loli stays or they cancel the anime
And well CDPR backed down.
>>717405252The polish writer of the anime avenged CDPR's humiliation by ruthlessly crushing her in the final episode
it was very based of him, ngl
Open world was a mistake
Daytime was a mistake
Random weapon drops were a mistake
Romance options were a mistake
Fake urgency brain chip was a mistake
>>717407782oh and the niggercore soundtrack was a mistake
>>717367854DADOES had the city described as a desolate, dead wasteland of architecture.
>>717364905Not only that, USA was somewhat getting back on track during 2, as in you have New Reno with a porn/casino economy, Vault City and Shady Sands are fortresses with clean streets, energy field gates and sentry guns/bots all over.
>>717367601>There's a lot of degenerate shit in it but that's the pointNo it fucking isn't. Have you ever played another Cyberpunk game? Everyone knows degenerate shit is going on somewhere but the point of the narrative is to explore the human condition, not drown you in obnoxiously unpleasant imagery and noise constantly like this game does.
>>717410492First of all,use less wordsl
>>717398229>Blade Runner is a neonoir film, not a cyberpunk filmOh yeah, because lots of neonoir films address questions of losing one's humanity to technology and corporatism, don't they? It literally started the genre, hence why a new term was coined for it. Nevertheless, I expect a game called "Cyberpunk" to keep the themes and visual aesthetic intact as a homage and not do away with it completely. All the more damming is this opinion implies you prefer the game to look like neon GTA V instead of something like Blade Runner and if true, you should kys.
>>717410492That image is brutal. How did it all go so fucking wrong
>>717410761I have to assume Blackrock or some other "investment" group came in after Witcher 3's smash success and started mandating "changes" to the original concept, hence the scope creep and massive tonal shift. Blackrock does own about 4% of CDPR currently.
>>717358171 (OP)looks way too sci-fi for cyberpunk, im glad they went with the more grounded look that better represents the tabletop
>>717410852Funny considering the trailer's night city looks almost identical to that image.
>>717410852?
That cover looks way closer to the OP image than to what we got in the game
>>717358171 (OP)Did that even make it into the game?
>>717358214They delivered.
>>717411070You see that guy for like 5 seconds shooting some people in one scripted car ride in an intro mission if I recall the game on release.
CDPR are a linear story driven game studio that just happen to place them in open worlds for some reason. They suck ass at creating the kind of sandboxy mechanics & reactive AI needed to actually make the open worlds feel alive. Their NPCs are basically empty shells with pretty idle animations attached, there's zero logic going on beneath the hood, they lack interactive abilities that other games were doing 20 years ago.
>>717410492>in a shithole city>IT'S TOO LOUD>TOO MUCH IMAGERY>AAAAAAA IT NEEDS TO BE QUIET AND POLITE AAAAAAAAAGo to bed, grandpa.
>>717412309>shitty music blaring 24/7>brown people everywhere>graffiti on everything>every character spouts mexican slang constantlyI have good news for you, you can experience Cyberpunk 2077 for real! Just go to Brazil!
>>717411070this
>>717411142and also you meet the cyberslut in a side gig
why the fuck is the base game so weird
what's with these 2 minutes long cutscene side quests all the time
>>717358171 (OP)Funny how people are still hung up on this single piece of concept art that was made before the game even existed
I hope the sequel isn't so tryhard/edgy with it's endings. There's basically no good ending for /v/ on purpose. Some people will claim "but its mature!!". Is it really? That kind of negative outlook aligns with edgy teen views, not mature adults.
>>717413276Yeah, some of the endings felt contrived to me.
>>717413276I really lost a lot of hope in the sequel after what pondsmith said
>it doesnโt feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrongSeems to me like the 2nd game is just gonna be gta with hacking. Very disappointing
>>717413114>concept artmy brother you are retarded
>>717413276>There's basically no good ending for /v/ on purposeIt was that way until the DLC came out and gave you a way to resolve everything in the best way possible
And ironically it's the one government aligned ending in a cyberpunk game
>>717413612>resolve everything in the best way possibledeath is unironically a better outcome than the dlc ending. state enforced normiefacation blows ass and thats not even considering how dogshit life is for regular people in the setting
>>717413612wasn't that the one where they rip out all your augs and made you incapable of getting new ones so you're just a washed up loser who can't even beat up two street thugs in the end?
>>717413731that's the one
>>717360232Wasn't there an isometric one a couple years back that looked promising? I remember seeing the trailer and thinking it looked cool.
>>717413612even that ending feels contrived as fuck, the way even your nicest ex-friends like vik & misty basically abandon you. It feels forced, illogical.
>>717414052You don't even contact any of them beforehand right? Even though you easily could.
>>717375123>>717367854 The fog from industry would've darken the city
>>717363328I don't give a fuck, pussy. Cyberpunk is an inherently night time aesthetics setting and if you disagree, you're comically wrong and clinically retarded. They chose Richard NIGHT for a reason. Think about what that means for the themes of the setting and universe.
It should always be night time in Cyberpunk because the game looks best at night
I literally don't give a shit about any other arguments, if you make a point of how the sun will still exist in 50 years your opinion is worthless to me
I don't care if there's bright daytimes, but the nighttimes do feel oddly short? Like it only gets dark very late and gets bright very early. If they just made the nights longer I think it would be fine.
>>717366934Yes, we really should, but I'm fine mocking the exceptionally predatory and obnoxious ones.
>>717390907Poland is really, really nice in the cities. Krakow's one of the nicest places I've been.
What do normal people do for day jobs in NC? Everyone who's not a criminal, a suit or a vendor just seems to loaf around all day.
>>717401882What don't you like about the city's atmosphere? I really liked it.
>>717418097sounds like everywhere in the west. real answer, they're all the bottom rung of the corpo ladder probably doing menial office shit.
>>717362798>polacksThe cyberpunk game they originally announced was canceled after the success of Witcher 3 and they started making it from scratch.
And at that point it was just another Western studio. All the Poles had left during the development of The Witcher 3 DLCs so the technical part was completed by Russian studio
>>717362089No, it's because it was made by Richard Night. Just like most towns get named by the last name of the "founder" than change.
Old New York, was once New Amsterdam. Why they changed it, I can't say. People just liked it better that way, etc.
>>717418927>Why they changed it, I can't sayBecause the English took it over by force and changed the name to an English town; York.
>>717390709No but I will never care about paying gog a dime again.
>>717390709My opinion of polaks is way lower than any game could influence me
t. german
>>717418298t. russian trying to take credit
>>717418108It's not grimy and shitty enough. I want it to be more like the anime, where the streets are just littered with disgusting lifeless husks. An average day in modern Skid Row is more dystopian than Night City.
>>717366534not happening
battle passes are more profitable
>>717369619>I wonder how shit the new Witcher game will beAny game that's a sequel to used to be good games is going to be absolute trash. Just full of troons, nigs, and stronk wamen.
Enjoy Witcher 4 and GTA 6. They'll both show the new standard of awful we'll have to expect going forward.
I think I'm just going to take up drugs and reading.
>>717423181I don't entirely disagree tbf. The game could've done with more scum on the streets, mental homeless people etc. But I think it could be argued that the reason the anime has more of that vibe than the game is because David is poor and therefore lives in a shithole area.
>>717358171 (OP)the worst thing was all the bullshit they said in interviews that was going to happen like the gang wars will shape the map and they will change over time and it will be unique each time
that paolo homo faggot is the biggest liar of them all i dont know what that little shits deal is with lying on the spot about everything then the CEO came out and cried on the spot begging gamers not to suduko his company
>>717359390Its very okay. How and why are some of you fags so into it?
>>717426428Good graphics.
>>717358171 (OP)The story is so extremly bland yet plebbitors love the story which for me is laughable.
>>717424657they cut a massive amount of stuff. in the beginning, the whole montage you see for each path was originally planned to be playable, but couldn't finish it due to time constraints. then all the paths converge onto the Johnny timeline, where we start playing.
>>717428397see you say that but they were saying this a couple months before the launch of the game so they knew it wasnt going to be in the game
I was so incredibly hyped for Cyberpunk. Even though they made some decisions I didn't really agree with (rap music, e-celeb cameos, etc) I was still sure it would be an amazing game.
In the end, it was abysmal dogshit. I'm not even mad anymore, it taught me a valuable lesson to not get hyped up for anything, ever. Now I just simply have zero expectations for any kind of media.
I thought cohhcarnage did a pretty good job in his role as the tinfoil hat guy. I actually got right to the end of his questline before thinking "wait I've heard this guy before" then realised it was him.
