Call me a fag but I don't like the trend of Nintendo making open-worldish games where you have too much freedom.

I don't like being able to dig almost everywhere just like I didn't like being able to craft anything in TOTK. I find it overwhelming and not an engaging gameplay experience.

For me, Super Mario Wonders was the perfect sequel because it didn't try to reinvent anything but just improved what the series was about.

I hope that one day Nintendo will go back to the traditional, tight Zelda experience and same for DK.

They could use a hard mode true but you don't really buy a Nintendo game for the challenge, it's more about the setting, polish and fun gameplay.

I know what you mean, lacks focus, etc.
But MKWorld is pretty cool in that regard, every track being interconnected. Really pulled it off in that one.

I didn't really care for Mario Wonder but I agree that the abundance of freedom the player has in TOTK and Bananza, make them really boring.
TOTK is at its best during the tutorial when you don't have all your game breaking skills yet, but if you're creative and resourceful you can still do some unintended things and sequence break. After that the game just becomes a sandbox where every challenge is so easy to break, the game feels like it lacks game design entirely.
Anonymous No.717410943 >>717411078 >>717411435
I like this trend because it's much preferable to the time where Nintendo felt like the player's hand must be held at all times, but they could probably dial things back a little and provide a more focused experience at least some of the time. In Bananza you do have the parts of the game that are meant to be more linear. IN future Zelda games I would love for the freedom of BOTW in the overworld, but the dungeons should be a tighter more focused and substantial linear experience and not just a single puzzle room anymore, though I liked the shrines as they were.

they've done that for plenty of their singleplayer games on switch but you mongoloids always act as if it doesn't count

bananza and totk aren't even remotely comparable when it comes to the kind of things you can anyway, bananza is fundamentally linear

I know, you basically had BOTW which was full blown non-linear and then you have games like Mario Odyssey and Banana that give you that sort of freedom, but in more compact levels while incorporating some linear section in them. OP specifically mentions Mario Wonder so it's not like they stopped making totally linear games, but I'm really just enjoying this trend where the game actually lets you explore things on your own and you find tons hidden things all over.

this happened with me in odyssey. the moons felt like nothing, as a comparison in banjo you get jiggies for every important task you have in the world. on odyssey a butt jump onto something might get you a moon so can beating a boss or something. oh and there is like 700 of them. 700 mostly meaningless task around an open map. go suck my balls nintendo. How cant they know that more collectibles isnt more content. i'd rather play dk64 than mario oddysey any day of the week

This. I like the trend aswell because you literally get the best of both worlds. In DK and Zelda you have the challenge rooms, rehearsals and shrines which are linear more focused experiences. You can also follow the main objective entirely which also provides that feeling, or you can mix both and have the freedom and focused experience. DK does this very fucking well.

>Bananas are so common you get tired of the mini cutscene after like 10 of them. They're fucking everywhere and become meaningless.

One. That's entirely false. Two. Most of the bananas have some sort of gameplay design around it. Also, the game doesn't force you to get every banana retard. You can literally just play the main story and challenge rooms which negates your argument.

Games are fun when they provide a problem to solve, like β€œget the star”. It’s even more fun when the player has a robust set of tools that allow the player to solve that problem in multiple ways, like the multiple ways of platforming to any specific area in sm64. The problem is newer Nintendo games give you so much freedom it doesn’t even feel like you have a problem to solve, you just do stuff and then you win. You just wander around and find moons in Mario Odyssey. You just pick up some items and smack enemies to death in BotW, or you just walk around them because that will probably work too.

It's not that simple. I agree in principle, but at the same time I don't think it applies to BOTW/TOTK for instance. In Odyssey's case the whole game is more of a trip and what you said fits but it's still effective even like this. But the formula is growing thinner everyday and it's not looking good nowadays

I think I can understand.
None of the open bananas were really memorable. The most I ever thought was "oh I think I came from the wrong direction for this banana".
A couple of the combat shrines were ok but most were just go unga.
I think I enjoyed the sub worlds the most especially the ones that forced you to stay in a certain bananza with the challenge built around them.
At least it didn't overstay it's welcome with like <40 hours so I am okay with it and had my fun with it.
Anonymous No.717415701
It's obvious you didn't play this game. DK does allow you to "dig anywhere" but there's no reason to. There are very obvious places you are supposed to dig and while digging in such places you will occasionally find treasure chests which tell you where the fossils are buried. There's really nothing else to find besides the fossils, so if you're just digging around everywhere you're wasting your time.

I certainly wouldn't consider this an open world game either. It's much more linear in direction than even Odyssey was. It's certainlly no BotW.

Tbf I don't want to be spending 20 hours trying to do execute a bouncy hop double jump just to reach a golden star or banana or whatever the fuck challenge you need to do so I dont actually mind if it's made more easy.

When I was a kid yeah I feel like I had more time to waste on shit like that, but don't really want to waste time on gay little bananas and stars.

It requires a treasure hunting mindset. You grab the freebies and move on, but the satisfaction comes from finding the trickier ones and reaching the point of having no more moons to find in a kingdom. The platforming in the game is fun too.

I don't find it overwhelming at all, I just dislike the the feeling of having to intentionally gimp myself to get the nicest gameplay experience, which then in turn worsens the experience.
Like in TotK there's a really cool gauntlet of obstacles in the gerudo valley but if you use Link's abilities to their full potential you'll never even see it cause you'll just fly over the whole thing.
It's the same with Bananza. You smash your way through walls and find a Banana only to see that there's a different "intended" path to the banana that would've been more fun to traverse than just breaking the walls.
