The game really isn't that hard that you'd have to resort to "metagaming". Based on your second sentence you're very early on anyway; it's not like there's much buildmaking available if you're level 5 or some shit. All of the companions, even Harrim, are more than passable for the default difficulty. Woodsman nigger and London goblin will carry the game for you.

I'm playing on challenging as a pure wizard with Valerie, Linzi, Amiri, Jubilost and Tristian as pure whatever their starting class was and haven't had any issues after finishing act 4. There's a few areas that have fights that are well above your level and you have to come back for, but that's about it. Does it get harder or does OP suck?
