What's the best anime game where it actually feels like you are going on an emotional journey through an artistic world?
Anonymous No.717542584
smt digital devil saga, not your generic anime art though

Its so weird how anime has always been huge yet no one tried to make an actualy AAA game about them.

Back in the day, i would kill for some sort of open world Naruto RPG. Instead all we ever got were arena fighters and some low budget PS2 shit like OPs pic.

Overall I agree but FMA2 on Ps2 is actually really nice, its fully voiced and has nice levels and the mechanics are neat enough to carry the game
The overabundance of arena battlers does suck, I always wished for games to be bigger as a kid.
I wanted a pokemon game that spanned all the regions, a Zelda MMO
I salivated to get my first xBox 360 to play Elder Scrolls:Oblivion and it actually did blow my mind for about 60 hours but then the fun all dried up and now I really dislike open world games on principle

These were surprisingly pretty decent. I still think a game with a similar alchemy mechanic would do wonders with modern tech.
For whatever reason I was stuck on this boss in the first one for a while.

>Its so weird how anime has always been huge yet no one tried to make an actualy AAA game about them.
Games based on anime or movies are always fucked in terms of plot because they are not going to have any significant developments that would impact the show's world or characters.
You basically get a filler arc where nobody develops, nobody dies and nothing really matters. If there is anybody who actually does anything it will be a one-off insert character who feels like out of place fanfiction. Then they have all kinds of writing restrictions and guidelines they could get sued over on top of the usual stuff.
So they are basically doomed from the start.
Best thing you could do is have a completely unique cast set in the same world far away from the main story, but then it loses most of the purpose of baiting the shows fans.

All that, and then the publisher just puts a cheap team on it, instead of any noteworthy one. Just a cheap cash grab to rake in on the license.
Basically, just about the same deal as most licensed games in the west. Same shit, different part of the globe.

Because the ones making all them anime is not the ones pocketing 99% of the money being made from anime. And the 1% that has their grabby paws on everything don't give af and probably is not even japanese so they hate anime.

The people that make the game know people will play it for the IP so they cut corners.

This one was great and had a genuinely fun sandbox area to play around in, also gliding over trees was fun. Back then I wished every anime like YYH or Bleach would receive the same treatment as this game.

I love broken angel, it's still a mess.
Very stiff-feeling dodge and if you wanted to play seriously (going for armstrong/roy's items) you would need to load up on reloader items. The game is already somewhat item-hungry.
Even with cheated stats (the kind that would take multiple playthroughs to farm bonus stat points for) the roy/armstrong fight would take well over 10 minutes, on top of them still being able to combo you to death pretty easily.
Crimson Elixir is the better game mechanically, it feels way more polished than Broken Angel does. Unfortunately the only superbosses are Scar and technically Armstrong, so going for ranks is about all you can do.
Both of them are still decent to come back and play once in a blue moon, or even a casual playthrough. The superbosses are a bit of a meme to actually fight legitimately, but I guess repeatedly shelling mustang is satisfying in a way.

FMA 2003 was so good I was even able to make people who've never seen anime watch it and enjoy it. BUT that ending is such dogshit.
Also it was made by the same guy who did that needlessly depressing Super Sentai series so it kind of devolved into a misery circlejerk after a while. Still fun.

I still like it more than the canon ending final act outside the endings characters got. Scrub the "lol I became god lmao" shit out and the series goes from an 8 .5 to a 10. Also drop the two chinese randos.

Why does everyone hate the ending to 2003? It has a bittersweet, flawed conclusion that fits the tone of the show perfectly. The nature of the "twist" doesn't have any impact on the plot whatsoever. It just gives a semi-interesting explanation for part of the setting, but it doesn't shit up any character arcs or anything like that. I've never understood this, and think that that antagonist, while somewhat generic, is still far more compelling and less generic than the manga's/Brotherhood's.

>it doesn't shit up any character arcs or anything like that.
Problem is, the TV series had a "sort of" ending and the film conclusion actually did fuck up a lot of characters, most notably Mustang.
I still stand by the fact that if the series had ended with Ed sacrificing Dante in exchange for their bodies (minus like one arm or something, equivalent exchange is BS yada yada) it would have been a ten out of ten anime.

gonna sound like a massive tard here but kinda wished there was a decent tokyo ghoul game in a similar vain quality wise to say the attack on titan. with at least different stories that follow the same beats but shifts and shakes things up and around. If 13 year old characters in a cartoon crying and screaming all their dialogue makes you "emotional" there's either something wrong with you, or you're an easily manipulated teenager.
