True but like I said, the devs deserve medals for pulling off what they did.
It's the videogame equivalent of fitting a bus in a garage.
Yes it's crunched up and destroyed and it barely runs and it no longer resembles a bus but the challenge was to put it in the garage and by god it's there.
I genuinely believe Arkham Knight was the stupidest idea to stuff on the switch because there's nowhere you can cheat.
>lower the draw distance
Can't. The draw distance is literally a game mechanic. You see smoke stacks and alarms and red lights out in the distance to know where sidequests are at a distance diagetically.
>make interiors their own instances
Can't, for the most part. Most interiors actually interact with the exteriors.
>then just don't load anything from inside the interiors when you're outside
Also can't. Detective vision has to interact with the stuff inside the buildings otherwise it has no purpose.
Basically any idea you could have on how to optimize the game has to be shot down because of how the game is made. It's that insane.
And you can tell the problem with AK IS the open world because the game runs fine during the DLC missions with the small maps.
They did all they could. Removed all physics destructible objects. Removed grass, removed police tape, anything that flows in the wind, but they still cared about what they were doing. I know because when you go to a "riddler time trial" location, if you look at the coordinates long enough, they show up in as clear a texture as they could manage. That's dedication.
