Sonic Forces looks blurry but otherwise plays fine with stable performance, I 100% the game on hard mode at launch, didn't bother with the alternate ending update.

>>717631337
Bloodstained had some real bad memory leak issues which I'm not sure they ever addressed, but every time you interacted with shop or alchemy menus (which could be pretty damn frequently) the leaking would get worse until the software unexpectedly quits.
Locked 30 FPS and sub-native resolution, but otherwise still a decent way to play the game.

There are some truly wretched Switch ports out there though, that recent Hobbit game "Tales of the Shire" for example.
Though some of the worst "ports" are ones like the Kingdom Hearts games; they're cloud streaming games that require a persistent online connection, fuck that.

Sorry Sonic Frontiers, don't know why I typed Forces. The Switch software itself is technically better, but the game itself is ass regardless of software/hardware. Too much downtime watching fucking results screens after levels that take like a minute or two tops to finish, and Classic Sonic's completely meaningless inclusion.

And I say this as someone who's 100% it twice on Hard ON the Switch. That's 4 playthroughs (Normal and NG+) getting all the riddler trophies both times.

It's bad but the devs deserve a medal for pulling it off either way.

Nintendo exclusives, because they're usually polished and have a feel you just don't find elsewhere.

I say usually because even some 2nd party releases like Mario & Luigi Brothership happened, being an Unreal Engine game locked at 30 FPS and feeling clunky because of it. It desperately needs a Switch 2 update.

Knight is "good". Like really good. It is an exceptionally well-made game but it's my least favorite Arkham game because of the car. I can get through it without getting annoyed at the car because I already know what I'm getting myself into, already know I have to use the car a lot and internalized the "it is what it is". Play City, then play Origins, and THEN play Knight. They all build on each other.

If you want third parties portably, unironically get a steam deck. You will save far more money on game prices, it has a metric shitload of games, it will play those games way better, and it can do a ton of other things besides. If you already have games on pc, you won't even need to rebuy them, they'll all just be there the moment you boot up the deck.

I just 100% Bananza last night and you're not wrong. Same formula of tracking down all the collectibles you feel like, but with very nice movement tech and unique interactable elements in each stage.
Now with added DNA from Zelda and Splatoon for good measure; you can skip big chunks of gameplay if you know what you're doing, you don't actually have to collect any upgrades (like a 3 heart run), there's a focus on going into smaller challenge areas that focus on a specific enemy or interaction, etc.

>>717633596
Yeah that specific boss fight is a known low point for performance. Surprisingly it's like the only boss fight to suffer that though.
You can make the frame rate chug hard when later in the game you can erase huge amounts of terrain continuously, with loads of gold nuggets and stray chunks flying around.

True but like I said, the devs deserve medals for pulling off what they did.
It's the videogame equivalent of fitting a bus in a garage.
Yes it's crunched up and destroyed and it barely runs and it no longer resembles a bus but the challenge was to put it in the garage and by god it's there.
I genuinely believe Arkham Knight was the stupidest idea to stuff on the switch because there's nowhere you can cheat.
>lower the draw distance
Can't. The draw distance is literally a game mechanic. You see smoke stacks and alarms and red lights out in the distance to know where sidequests are at a distance diagetically.
>make interiors their own instances
Can't, for the most part. Most interiors actually interact with the exteriors.
>then just don't load anything from inside the interiors when you're outside
Also can't. Detective vision has to interact with the stuff inside the buildings otherwise it has no purpose.
Basically any idea you could have on how to optimize the game has to be shot down because of how the game is made. It's that insane.
And you can tell the problem with AK IS the open world because the game runs fine during the DLC missions with the small maps.
They did all they could. Removed all physics destructible objects. Removed grass, removed police tape, anything that flows in the wind, but they still cared about what they were doing. I know because when you go to a "riddler time trial" location, if you look at the coordinates long enough, they show up in as clear a texture as they could manage. That's dedication.

The deck is a great handheld, but not a great "portable" handheld
I can somewhat rely on my switch 2 to last a decent while in games that will get my Deck to 10% of its charge in a couple hours, and most games are tweaked to run just a bit better on the 2 because of course they'd be..
The deck is just pretty flexible. Mods, hackroms, fangames, homebrew, weird itch.io crap, your stupid steam backlog, your stupid epic library of free shit. It's flexible, just not friendly to your backpack

If pocket portability is an absolute must for you, then yeah, the deck is no good for that. But it is very comfortable to hold and the big screen is needed to comfortably read text and other elements. Pocket sized handhelds were at their best when the games got made exclusively for them knowing they were handhelds and how small the screens were, but it's just not feasible for all these bigger games.
But if size is what matters most to you then yeah, the switchlite is probably your best bet, otherwise the only alternatives are some random chinese handhelds.

Deck LCD? The S2 has a really bad battery life. Even games that look like welcome tour only last 2 hours. The Deck OLED's battery life is considerably better across the board.
I do agree though that it's not as easy to carry around as something fits in your pocket, though, for sure. But the carrying case does help a lot.

Not really an ideal comparison though.
Bloodstained was 2019, XBC3 was 2022.
The former uses Unreal Engine, which notoriously runs poorly on Switch.
The latter uses an in-house engine by specialists that frequently contribute to Nintendo's major projects.

Monolith Soft really specialise in expansive environments. Xenoblade X was a mean feat on the Wii U, and that engine was the basis of Xenoblade 2 on Switch, which does frequently get mentioned as looking blurry as hell especially in handheld mode.
The engine got refined in Xenoblade 1 DE, Xenoblade 3, and Xenoblade X DE, and got better with every title.
I've love to see a deep-dive analysis on the engine, actually. However what I really want is Switch 2 upgrades for the four Xenoblade titles.

>you have an active online community
>you have the original physics and lighting without any mods
>you have higher resolution than the 360/PS3 version, and no framerate stutter in Blighttown
>switch pro controller is amazing for claw grip, with the low wide buttons

The audio compression is inexcusably awful, it's a bad joke. That being said, it's partially a me thing. Audio is probably the thing I care about least in a game, so long as I'm not hearing awful beeping noises or funimation dub retard voices I don't care.

The Craziest thing about this game is that the Switch 2 version was the best selling with a power gap, and the lead in to it's release it was obvious that this would be the case with the spinoff games selling similarly with the Switch version being the best selling. Not only was the Switch this games top selling platform but when you compare it to Metroid Dread a game with a similar approach to visuals it's almost like a 3ds game compared to a Switch game, it's that bad.
It gets even better, the sequel to this isn't even coming to Switch 1 or 2, it's like they want to lose most of their sales.

Here's the thing of that webm. It drops to "just" 30fps, but some of the game animation(the walls that spawn) are moving at a much choppier rate, making it look like its running at 10fps, but its still "just" 30.

Also this is the only part of the game where it happens and this stage of the fight takes 30 seconds. Shouldnt it be there? Yes. Does these 30 seconds ruin a 30+ hour game? No

Honestly why did they make the Switch a port machine? You see games come out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC and then down the road, the decide to port those games to Switch despite it having half the power of a PS4/Xbox One.

Now it is happening with Switch 2 where the games come out first on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, and later they port it to Switch 2 and Switch 2 has half the power of a PS5/Xbox Series. Switch 2 feels pointless if you already have the games on PS/Xbox/PC unless you want portability.

A lot of people in upper management are absolute Sony dickriders. Sega's current CEO and COO (jp onry) literally launched the Playstation. There's old loyalty to Sony and it won't go away until these people retire or die. Look at Soul Hackers 2. The game was a giant flop but since it was the same director and team that made TMS (which they made flop twice), they got butthurt and didn't even port it to the Switch. Actually, look at nearly all of Atlus besides their SMT team. Same exact thing happened with Yakuza on the Wii U and Nintendo didn't get another Yakuza game until an entire decade later. There's a ton more examples. Fuck, look at Sparking Zero. Getting a late port on both the Switch 1 and 2 a year later at the same time when it could've ran on the Switch 1 this whole time. It's not even just Nintendo. Look at Vanillaware. It took Kamitani 13 years to come crawling back, 5 years after the Switch launched. And he's still anti-PC, which would be free money. DQ11 was going to be PS4 only too when it launched lmao.

Another yuge reason is that Nintendo doesn't pay for other developers shit/collab with them as much as Sony. Look at the numerous console/true exclusives that Sony has partnerships with. Nioh, Rise of Ronin, Death Stranding, Marvel Tokon, the ENTIRETY of the China Hero Project and other Chinese ventures (can't name them all but all the Hoyoverse games, Lost Soul Aside, F.I.S.T., Sifu) all just recent examples. Nintendo doesn't really do that as much.

Even the Sakuna devs were only planning on making it PS-only until a Nintendo rep had to literally talk to him at a convention, but this is more so a budget/small developer issue. I can't blame tendies for having a chip on their shoulder when dumb corpo-political shit and decade-long seething like this is preventing them from getting releases.

Unironically, and not even to start shit, but the Deck 2 will be so much better it won't even be funny. The first Deck is already an insanely good device unless all you really want are the latest, biggest games.
If you think you can wait 1-2 years, the Deck 2, easily, not even a question. If you care at all about the past 50 years of video games, then the Deck. I really can't recommend the Switch 2 at all under any circumstances right now if you don't care about bing bing and just want ports. At the very least for that one, wait until it gets more games and then see how those games stack up compared to how they play on the Deck and if whatever minor difference is worth all the caveats, then go with a Switch 2.

No it isn't. It's a mild inconvenience at worst when you have to change a game's resolution when you dock it. Unless you're docking and undocking it nonstop multiple times during a session, it's a non-issue. And most people who get a Deck are already going to have a good desktop so there's even less reason to dock it. And I don't know what you mean about QA. Ports to the Switch are not good, there's no quality assurance there, devs will nuke games to get them to run and there's nothing you can do about it. It's for Nintendo games only. If we were talking about emulating Nintendo games then I could see that. And in terms of hardware, the Deck is made to be user repairable and there's already big red flags with the Switch 2 over things like Nintendo not fixing the issues that caused drift.
Anonymous No.717664914

To elaborate, I mean you can't change game or hardware settings and you're stuck to that one bit of hardware. If a game doesn't run well on the Deck right out of the box, you can fully reconfigure it or in worst case it's guaranteed to run better on a better PC and the Deck 2, whereas there's no guarantee someone's Switch game will even be playable at all on whatever Nintendo's next system is.

Indies and lower budget games have completely replaced Nintendo for me. They're the ones putting the love and passion into their games now while Nintendo has just become a total corporatized fuckup in so many ways and they just bank on portability and their brand names to carry them no matter what they do as they run their IPs into the dirt and try to milk and sue everyone into oblivion.
For example, the last significant new IP Nintendo made was Splatoon a decade ago and since then they've just released basically the same version of it two more times for full price while making you pay to play online in a $60 video game with only like a 2 hour long singleplayer campaign. And they still kept all the dripfeeding rotation garbage that never should have stuck around after Splatoon 1 once they knew the IP was popular. It just became Nintendo's version of a GaaS, only instead of microtransactions they make you rebuy essentially the same game for full price using splatfest fomo.
