I really don't understand how you guys get pushed into using cheats or get hardstuck on bosses
yeah some of them are insanely difficult (honglan, zhao yun, etc.) but it's still just a souls-like
you're meant to throw yourself at the boss over and over while you build a mental flowchart of their attacks and your responses
then once you have it all mapped out it's a matter of not making too many mistakes

So what the fuck does the axe do? Slashing? Blunt? Blunt makes the most sense, and although end game they're both on the same tier, Scorn is sold as having a higher grade of strength scaling and fuckloads more slash damage, but after fucking around a little in earlygame ng+ it looks like none of its move out damage the empyrean great axe. What am I missing here? I know bloodborn had damage types relevant to the move, like the hunter axe pokes being pierce while almost all the other moves were blunt, but what the fuck is the slash part of the axe animation in wuchang?

I don't know about slash/blunt on attacks specifically, but I'm pretty sure Scorn gets it's big numbers from tempering Flame bonuses. You could also try messing with the acupressure stuff, it might scale way higher than Empyrean can with the right set up.

I'm doing NG+ to clear out the bosses I missed in my first run. Just got to vermillian feathers Honglan, and I am getting absolutely ass blasted. I don't think I can deal with the end game bosses with their NG+ damage and health. It was hard enough on normal.

He's not that bad. If you pay attention you'll notice that while his attacks have quick startups, they also have notably slow recoveries and small hitboxes. After or during his melee attacks is the safest times to attack, and the only one you really need to look out for is the backflip that sends out multiple energy orbs because that will one shot you if you get hit by multiple of them at once IE you're standing in front of where they spawn after the flip.

Because you need to progress her quest to get her as a summon, the summon is the Huang lady you met at the first hub area.

Oh, also Bo Sorcerer is only mandatory for one ending and you can leave her fight until you've cleared out the entire next area after Zhenwu Temple if you want to try with higher damage stats.

I talked to every possible NPCs, so no idea if quest is unlocked. I also thought it was dude, not a chick. He gave us bone whistle in the first area.

He gives you that to summon him for the priest battle atop the sanctum, but the item works for all quests. The game will tell you if it's available for a boss with a popup message every time.

Well if you're dying to the physical hits, then it might be best to change it around anyway. Another useful tip is to use the right talismans, there's defense boosting ones and another that stops beast roars from stunning you. I can't remember the name, but the image is a purple lion looking thing.

For both, Hong hong 2nd phase and HongLenia you have to run away from her mele combo, dodge the long range attack that ALWAYS comes afterwards, and THEN you heal.

I don't know what to tell you, anon. He's a relatively slow boss with overly generous hitboxes and the first phase has a small healthbar, while the second phase is just a repeat of the first phase with a few extra bells to trick you into thinking it's much harder. It has the same general dodge timing and whatnot though, and half the time you can just stand at his hind legs to get a few hits in or heal while he's still doing a combo. Maybe you should try using Poise Break to increase your damage, or search the marsh for some weapon upgrade materials?

Input reading, after you get combo'd to the ground, just don't press anything for a few seconds while you get up. Bosses will just circle you for the most part.

I didn't talk about this in other threads. I missed Honglan 2.0 Bo Magus, demon of obsession and Temu isshin on my first run. Just did NG+ to get those, and thought I might as well go for the Bo ending on this, since I liked the concept of it. I just assumed you would take over the mantle after beating the final boss. Should have read a guide instead of just skimming through it, I guess.
Well. I'm certainly not doing another NG or NG++. So I guess I'll just never fight the last two bosses, unless the game gets a dlc, which I doubt.

I thought DUO WELDO BLADES was the clash weapon? Axe has some clash passives, but it's only on like the third hit? It doesn't have nearly as many clash passives and moves as dual blades does. Also, WHORELIN can FLASHSTEP and move 10000 miles an hour around the battlefield. It's hard to fight her with the slowest weapon in the game. It was easier to just sword counter her with a Longsword. I don't even use Longsword, but for that particular fight it was basically a necessity.

I remembered wrong, the knives are the clash on every hit, iirc, axe is first, third and heavy. The heavy is super easy to wind up for long combos and the first and third often slot in a lot nice than you'd expect into the flow.

I say this every time and it makes absolutely no mention of clash so I'm scared the devs will patch it but the one handed sword's spin to win is the king of clashes hands down.

What attack knocks her over? I've only been using Earthshaker or whatever for the added resilience. I'm like level 28, so I haven't tested other Axe discipline attacks. There is that spin to win move where you spin in a circle like twice.

Also, I don't like the "clash" mechanic. The timing seems to be really narrow on it and I don't like having to time my attacks with the enemy. I say I "main" the weapon, but it's not like I'm a master at it. I really enjoy the level designs and combat in Wuchang.

Also really appreciate the QOL stuff like seeing which NPC has new dialog, their new location and being able to respec. The compass telling you a new bonfire is coming up is also great too but I dont think it does a good job pointing out NPCs like it said it would.

Overall totally worth the money.

The term "soulslike" has been watered down so much, that it depends on what you mean by it.
But for me, Wuchang is the best one, by far.
The level design is amazing. The checkpoint system is sparce, so unlocking shortcuts and new one actually feel rewarding. As is exploring, as you can find quest items, weapon/healing upgrades and equipment. The combat is fast-paced, but more generous with the timing as well. There is decent variety in terms of enemy, panty selection and environment. The aethetic is good and the endings are vastly different and meaningful.
The downsides are the performance, but if you have a 4070 or above, it's not a problem.
The animations can also be a bit stiff, but for me, that only bothered me in the first hour or so, and then I didn't notice anymore.
NPC/Quests break easily, which can lead you to missing not just minor stuff, but major bosses.
Overall, I'd give the game a solid 8/10

Spears are basically the all rounder weapon. They have passive feather gain just from hitting the enemy that can be stored for whenever you need it, meaning you can spend your feathers to cause an opening and instantly refill them to attack during it with your big hits. Attacks that have wide hitboxes so they're easy to land and quick access to your combo enders that gain feathers too. You'll be swimming in resources even if you're not playing too well, compared to other weapons where you have to land things for feather gain like Axe or Longsword.

Most of the Disciplines are good. A costless dodge that skips melee combos straight to the feather regain while granting DS1 Poise for a time (this can be used with every attack spear has), clash spamming one for when you're fighting humans, solar leap that lets you never be away from the boss IE avoid the annoying catch up attacks, the one that sends humanoids flying into a down, etc. Don't like Furious Stab personally.

It has very strong weapons like Steam powered Spear, or Red Tassel/DLC spear that have really quick start ups and clash. Also Cloudpiercer which melts health bars using poise break + a big meaty hit.

For me personally Spear is the only one that's actually fun to use with melee overall, the rest are either bumrush playstyles or Discipline spamming.

Personally I think she's beaten the easiest with just basic dodging + melee and a Discipline like Rampage on Axe or the Spear variant that sends humans flying upwards. Just pay attention when she returns to neutral so you can back off and avoid the purple magic shotgun attack, other than that her moveset is pretty slow and predictable.

If the fox attacks are too annoying you can try kiting her near the shelves on the side of the boss arena, if you run behind them when she's transforming and flying up she'll just slam into the other side of the shelves harmlessly.

Dodge behind her and most of her kicks will generally miss, the teleporting and AOE doesn't matter because the timing is always the same. Stay at mid range and not directly next to her to avoid the corruption shotgun, you don't need to close the gap because she'll just teleport back to you. For the fox stuff you just have to learn the timings or use alacrity to dodge, or be scummy and hide behind the shelving in the arena.

Yes, that was in NG+. Personally, I was using the Snowfall Palace Guard armor when I beat her in NG. Although, you won't really need it if you use 1hand sword. Just use Evasive Maneuver to dodge. The reason one-handed swords with the initial one are good is generally because it allows you to escape safely from bosses with long melee combos while gathering a lot of skyborn charges to counterattack.

Huang Yan is one of the worst bosses for them as half of her moveset is ranged, but still if you're having such a trouble staying alive I think it'll still be easier, just remember to use Evasive Maneuver only when you have Skyborn Might and you're sure you're gonna get hit. Otherwise you'll lose charges and in that boss fight you might run dry.

Sekiro is an easy game. You can get a deflect for Longsword and Dual Swords but they only work against weapons, not punches, kicks, or anything deemed "not a weapon". There is a clash mechanic that's mostly utilized with Dual Swords but other weapons have access to Clash on certain light attacks and abilities. I'd say this game is definitely harder than Sekiro.

This is not true, there is a quest line for her, I don't know what it is, but just to be safe, do the entirety of the white robed elders quest line first, that's how I got her. the only thing I remember doing differently was failing his quest and my first run even though I got to the secret area, she wasn't there. I also accidentally ate the samsara rings so maybe having those is a prerequisite for her to spawn.
