>Sure, but is it fun to explore without hints
Yes. Especially considering the game drives you along by the (lack of) items you have. Cant reach that ledge next to the elevator in brinstar? Take the elevator. Oh, heated rooms. Cant go there. Huh, this one isnt heated. Hey, high jump. Back up to that room. Boss fight. VARIA. Hey I can check these heated rooms out now. Ice beam. Speed booster. Wave. Grapple. Huh, cant advance further down here. Let's head back up and poke around. Xray. Power bombs. More ammo. Man water really is blocking me off all over the place down here. Nowhere left to go except to the right from my ship, never checked it. Hey cool, new area. Phantoon. Cool the ship is powered up now let's look around. Hey GRAVITY COOL I CAN MOVE IN WATER NOW oh fuck now im in Maridia. Wow there's a ton of spots here that are way too hard to jump to, no way I can reach them with what I have now. Heres Draygon. What's this, space jump? Oh cool I can infinitely jump now. What's thru this door I couldn't reach? Oh damn this plasma beam is awesome it hits like a train. Welp I found everything here let's go check what's past that one room in norfair with the super deep lava. Oh shit awesome music. Fuck its that guy from the beginning. I can fight him now cuz im so much stronger! I beat him, awesome! Hey now that I killed these bosses i wonder what that gold statue of them i found will do. Oh shit Tourian. METROIDS man thank God I found that ice beam.
Etc etc
Every metroidvania works this way. You are intended to remember the places you cannot reach and when you locate a movement item or an item that nullifies an environmental hazard, backtrack to investigate the area(s) you could not access beforehand.
