A mixture of bots spamming the catalog and insane autists. I also use /tv/ pretty often and there's people who have been making the same threads nearly everyday for years now. Like 5-10 years. I don't mean generals either, but people presenting the thread as a spontaneous thought or conversation when it's something they ritualistically make. A lot of newfags who've grown in the social media clickbait engagement dystopia of today fundamentally don't understand how imageboards were built to function. As for what I personally think, I think the best thing one can do is foster the more spontaneous topics, maybe if I've got some time to kill try some non baity OPs, rather than just focusing on the shit on this board non stop. And, that applies to a lot of shit, even stuff like the /v/s new obsession with Dandy's World is I'd say of much more use than the usual trite, since there there's a slightly higher ratio of people who talk about games funnily enough.

I don't get why people today are so obsessed with having chatroom type threads. A good thread happens, then someone makes another one immediately on the same subject. And another one, and another one. Thread loses all activity but you still have someone bumping it off page 10 every hour. Then you got people making generals here for some reason despite /vg/ existing.
I know they don't want to hang with the people there because they realized stagnating in a thread with the same people 24/7 will read to cancerous culture and you need constant new blood flowing, but the solution isn't to do the exact same fucking thing on /v/. Make a thread once, then make another one next week. Give it time to breathe.

I dunno, I feel like imageboard culture changed and I got left behind. Back in the day I enjoyed lurking threads for random games that popped up even if I didn't play them. I absolutely loved Demon Souls, VtMB, Planescape Torment and Deus Ex threads, they made me pick up the games, and I never felt the need to have a thread up all day to discuss them.
Now I enter a random thread and I just see ritualposting between people who know each other unrelated to the game, or ERPing.

I often wonder if there are still any populated places left on the internet where people just goof around and talk about random shit without trying to be a massive assclown or a moral crusader. Nowadays it feels like wherever you go, everyone's got a massive stick up their arse about some dumb shit.

All the nicer parts of remaining 4chan populace seem to have congealed into different general threads. A lot of generals have their own secluded communities with local memes and OC that you will practically never see in the wilds. As someone who always enjoyed the great crossroads nature of this site, it's really sad to see everyone getting tucked into their own little corner.
