It is my theory that someone visited "real" ivalice (FFTA2/FF12) at some point before FFTA and on return, created that universe's version of Final Fantasy, inspired by the world and denizens of Ivalice. Mewt says he wishes he could go into Final Fantasy, and Marche tells Montblanc after the first battle that he had seen a Bangaa before in a video game and up until FFTA Bangaas had never been seen before, suggesting that their version of Final Fantasy is different from the real life series.

A game about this mystery dude's venture into Ivalice would be cool, but I guess Isekai is sort of cliche these days

>law system is bad
Never understood this. It forces you to use different strategies you normally wouldn't, which is cool because the game is brain dead easy and any restriction at any moment might change your course from just murdering everyone with your most effective attacks. Also racism cards are fucking funny.
>NOOO ITS ILLEGAL TO HURT HUMANS TODAY YOU GO TO JAIL!!!
Anonymous No.717694760
>>717694414
Failing to obey the law can result in a game over or permanent stat decreases. Pretty much every time you fuck up the correct action is to just reset and start over unless you want to do a challenge run or something. There are all kinds of stupid laws like "don't do more than 30 damage in a turn." I think this is the one that made me rage quit on my most recent playthrough. Also the game has a lot of permanently missable content if you don't follow a guide. FFTA2 in contrast, has no missable content and they toned the law system down severely to the point where you can pretty much ignore it.
Anonymous No.717694864
>>717694414
There's a cycle of laws that changes every day that make 1 type of action forbidden and 1 type of action give you some special points, if you do the no-no action once that unit gets a yellow card, do it again and they get teleported to prison. Yellow cards persist through battles unless you pay to have it cleared and clearing your record also makes you have to do jailtime on that unit for a few days. You start with one of these laws in effect during your battles but as the plot progresses it amps up to three at a time. Forbidden actions can include an entire class's magic, using a specific weapon type, or just plain using the attack command.

You do quickly get introduced to cards that negate laws though, and some areas don't have judges so you fight unabated (but those areas also have permadeath for units you don't revive by the end of the combat).

I would much rather that be fixed by buffing enemy stats and AI. Also if the best strategies are all braindead "use big damage attack = win" then balance the game so that isn't the case. Buff status effects, nerf the big damage attacks, etc.

>Favorite built/job race combo
I got a few:

>Templar with Dragoon secondary
Give him a black robe and breathe fire/ice/lightning on everything. Absurdly strong with no MP cost. Can Haste himself at the start of a battle as a bonus.

>Assassin with Archer secondary
People always go Sniper for some reason. I assume for Conseal but why bother wasting turns sneaking around? Give her a bow and cripple things from afar, then OHKO when enemies get close. Charm, blind and disable are crazy powerful with near perfect accuracy thanks to Concentrate. Or take that one turn you'd use Conceal and use Boost instead. Then use Ultima from 7 squares away. Highly recommend.

>Illusionist with White Mage secondary
Just hides in the back and either heals or hits. Give it a black robe and princess rod to boost the power of every Illusionist spell that does elemental damage. Add Magic Pow+ or Turbo MP and you're dealing solid damage to every enemy on the map. Nu Mou for best results.

I've played this game time and time again and have tried so many job combos but these three have always found a place on my teams. Very useful.

No that's dumb, Montblanc is awesome. Black Mage+Time Mage is a sick combo. Give him a black robe so he doesn't need to use Geomancy and use Concentrate instead. Now his Stop is 70% accurate when attacking enemies face-to-face and all his elemental attacks are juiced up.

A nu mou may deal more damage with this combo but is going to be missing much more. This type of unit is likely going to be casting at opponents head on from behind teammates so moogles are better than you might think.

Montblanc rules.

This game is one of the few times diversity is actually a strength. I suspect people who adamantly hate this game because of the law system just used the same small party over and over again. Or never learned how to manipulate the laws in their favor. It's really easy. Adding new laws can completely fuck over an entire enemy team. My 2 favorite for humans:

>Paladin with Fighter secondary
Pretty generic, but very good. My usual Marche build: Excaliber2, Peytral, Sacri Shield, Dash Boots and a Ruby Earring. I prefer Weapon Atk+ over Double Sword as it allows him to use the shield, which gives him near-Ribbon status immunity. Absolute tank of a unit.

>Blue Mage with Hunter secondary
Slays monsters and steals their moves. Not the most powerful unit every battle but has a strong niche and has some of the most handy spells around. Make sure you either steal a Tulwar or arrange the map correctly to get one. It'a a very rare saber and very strong.

How to beat potd? It's so mind numbing. After potd I have to beat the hanging gardens again and then go to potd again and then do coda. That's like 30 hours, maybe more.

Why doesn't kh have a srpg? Would fit the universe.
Shouldn't a game like to or fft(a) be easy to develop? I know of the mercaneries series, but they recycle everything. It's literally the same items, classes, people. The devs recycle more than the trails guys.

I like to think that after TA2 ended Luso invited Mr. Randell to Ivalice to show him around, and once there Mewt just summoned the Gran Grimoire and transformed into his unique prince class, at max level, challenging Clan Gully to a friendly battle so Luso can show off what he's learned.

I don't know why but I still prefer TA artstyle over A2. Something about A2 its just a bit off, like a tad too cartoonish or something.

I think this is my first time seeing the full version of these. The body proportions on the one on the right look weird as fuck and just wrong and not how I would have imagined. Like it was drawn by someone who has never seen an actual human before. Proportions on the left look way more reasonable.

>the roulette if you're out of options, doesn't breaks the law either
>doom kills the target in 3 turns without hurting it, so it doesn't breaks the law
>if none of the above, just use a blue mage to suicide blow up next to an animal, the judge won't red card a dead unit, then revive the blue mage and repeat the suicide blow up next to another animal
This game is great if you're clever, it punishes brainlets heavily tho.

I think they are all exaggerated and stylized in some way, but not all stylization is created equal. I think you need to at least stick to something where it looks like it could be a functional off-shoot/evolution of the human form instead of some kind of deleterious mutation. Like your pic-related is bad because those feet don't look functional, this thing looks like it would have great difficulty just walking.

ye i just petrified them because assassins are a fair, balanced class that i always had 3 of in my party
i just don't like the law system in general, it's just anti-player BS that the AI doesn't care about. every story fight just gives the main enemy immunity to laws, i hate mechanics that exist purely to punish the player.
>use a blue mage to suicide blow up next to an animal, the judge won't red card a dead unit, then revive the blue mage and repeat the suicide
OK dat is clever. i was too dumb to use blue mages, beastmasters, morphers and hunters as a kid though. also some moves are missable because older Final Fantasy had a "LOL FUCK YOU" design philosophy
