I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but i think rivals 2 is the best modern fighter.
Look at tekken 8 and sf6.
The heat system an unbridled aggression completely ruins tekken 8, and the fans absolutely despise it, its in a horrible state.
Sf6 WOULD be good without loops and if there was some adjustments to drive rush.
Nrs games are janky jokes to bring at a party so yea.
Rivals 2 is the most mechanically sound fighter imo.
Yes the population is fur fags and troops, but just play online so you don't have to interact with em. It's just like playing smash.

Sf6 is still the best modern fighting game despite its flaws, it is still very competitive (competitive, something rivals 2 will never be) . There is a reason rivals 2 doesn't have any real competition or tournament viewership

Rivals 2 has some differences from Rivals 1. There's grabs + shields + ledge-grabbing, and the physics overall are very different. I think whichever you prefer comes down to personal preference.

This was very much appreciated as someone who often finds fighting games too overwhelming. Its one thing to memorize and execute inputs, but being shown the context in which certain moves will be the most useful was really nice.

Rivals 2 is an Early Access game and a lot of its planned features are still in development or only partially implemented. There are some tutorials so far but only basic/intermediate ones; the advanced tutorials are supposed to be finished by the end of the year, and I assume after that they'll work on character tutorials like Rivals 1 had.

Rivals 2's tutorials aren't finished, and there's a lot of niche mechanical nuances that you aren't going to learn about until you read a random reply on a YouTube video that, for example, tells you that getting hit with a projectile doesn't refresh your wall jump. More than tutorials, they really need to add a "tips and tricks" menu.

Rivals 1's tutorials are really good, but nothing can beat the Virtua Fighter tutorial.

I've been watching and playing competitive Smash since the days of crispy-ass 360p screen recordings uploaded to YouTube, and one thing I appreciate about RoA is how volatile and dynamic it is, a lot like Melee. there was a time when I used to watch Ultimate top 8s because, why not, it's on before / after Melee, but the more the game developed the more pronounced its problems became. these days watching Ultimate is like pulling fucking teeth. every single stock feels like a slog that devolves into two retards fishing for stray aerials for minutes at a time, even in the MUs that don't commonly go to time.

brackets have both been incredibly consistent and consistently boiling down to top players from multiple platform fighters: cake et al. from rivals 1, plup from melee, sandstorm from brawlhalla, and plenty of project m players. hell, you can go online and get your ass dog walked by diamond and above players pretty easily.

I'm honestly really into the competitive scene for this game. I love Melee, but it hurts knowing it's past its prime and Cody or Zain will win everything. Competitive Ultimate is complete cancer. Meanwhile RoA2 majors have been consistently great. Really enjoy all the top players except Zeebee when he pulls the fucking faggot rock.

What is mean is this game has like 4-5 actual top players. Everyone else is slightly above mid level at best. This is why people who are actually good at platform fighters are avoiding this game. It doesnt have much actual competition. This is the same reason barely anyone watches rivals 2 tournaments. If theres barely any good players people aren't going to be interested in actually watching people compete in this game

i wish i was better at this game, it seems really fun but none of my friends play so I have no real motivation to play it just alone.

This game feels depressing, honestly. There's no locals, and it's just kind of "a game smash players sometimes play if they get bored or wanna play a second side tournament."

I found locals in my city for MBAACC, Alpha 3, VSAV, 3s, Blazblue, and Virtua Fighter before I found anything dedicated to Rivals 2 specifically. When I asked around, it was the same answer. They play sometimes when there's an update, but for the most part they'd all just rather play smash, instead.
