AAA releases are $90 nonsense, and indie games are just inferior repetitions of older games that are too short and bland to even worth the pennies they go for. Maybe if the industry made things that people actually desired then they would not be having this problem. Take cars for example, all of the American brands. No one is going to take out a loan to buy a new car at 50,000 USD if the reliability is garbage and its going to start breaking down before 100,000 miles. They are just going to continuously buy a used car. I stopped buying games new when they went up to $60 because "Physical goods and transportation was costing way more". Took less than 6 months for it to get to digital, and it's just a straight up incline now. It will keep going up until studios realize people want smaller games with less staff working on them that are actually cohesive.
The biggest success stories in gaming over the last half decade are all games that released to absolute fucking ABYSMAL scores, and then had to be completely fixed after massive fuckups. cyberpunk, baldurs gate 3 (people love to ignore that it was early access for so fucking long for some reason, the game was ASS for soooooooooooooooo long), no man's sky.
The only one I think didn't have that massive turnaround period was elden ring. I didn't really care for it but I don't remember there being huge issues at launch or anything.

So many games made by these major studios are TOO big, they fail because of it.
Smaller, cheaper, then people will buy.
Get games back down to $50. We did it before, people love to talk about how gen 4/5 games were regularly up to $80, but guess what, a lot of games weren't. Why is everything just assumed to be worth $80?
