I have enjoyed Starfield and was part of the hype train. I went through NG+ 10 times to maximize my character and the highest possible difficulty, and even played through the DLC.

I think it has very good tech. The NPCs are very expressive, you can see every muscle and wrinkle in their face contort, no other game that doesnโ€™t face-scan can do this. The system also has a genius and unadvertised global planetary rotation system to simulate solar eclipses almost-accurately, like, you can see what a solar eclipse would look like on a planet with a satellite thatโ€™s closer or further than our moon, and itโ€™s real interesting. The main quest isnโ€™t baseless bullshit either, it revolves around a very important tech that made spacefaring possible, and itโ€™s both genius and thought-provoking, I canโ€™t think of any other game that made me ponder about these types of topics.

Iโ€™m still upset that we still have to deal with 1000 planets that are entirely procedurally generated instead of sticking with the original 24-star system. Nothing will ever fix this, it makes exploring planets worthless. I only drop on moons surrounding gas or ice giants or habitable planets to take cool picture of the vista, I donโ€™t like looking at biologically fucked-up creatures.

>poorly optimizing
That's not it, the game run well on everything that isn't a decade old. Basically if you have 1080ti it will run just as shit as 1050 but if you have 2060 the game will run well enough. Same with CPU any Ryzen will run it just fine but fourth gen intel will not regardless if it's i7 or i3.
The reason why people cry about Starfield optimization is because Bethesda put too many NPCs in city without using any tricks to lower the logic burden, so high end PC get 90fps there instead +120fps people expected, but that's only cities, outside of them the game run +120fps just fine.
Basically it's like using center of Boston to measure fps in Fallout 4 aka the most dense packed arena in the game and claiming this is the performance everywhere.
I won't even bother making fun of poor souls that use HDD in 202X.

I got it as a gift from an anon here. It's pretty alright. It's a step up from Fallout 4 if you like the shooting looting generic gameplay. Quest is more cinematic and varied with barely any noticeable bugs. I run it on my absolute shitbox just fine after downscaling the texture. Doesn't help that the majority of the sidequests is pointless amounts of running around, and there's nothing interesting going on with the weapon types/mods available. You'll find yourself a good gun early on and you're good for the rest of the game.

Starfield came out in 2023.
OP, do you have any memory of what kind of RPGs, Open World games and Open World RPGs came out that year?
>Why do you guys hate fun so much?
Because a lot of us were busy with other games and Bethesda was asking us to spend our time on their distilled mediocrity instead.
Literally everything that could have been said about it has been said. Discussing the same points about Starfield is more repetitive than the game itself.

The biggest crime it commits is the absolute waste of potential. Bethesda went with randomly generated worlds, but didnโ€™t create nearly enough โ€˜stuffโ€™ (locations, loot, enemies, etc) to fill that world. With the current state of updates, itโ€™s an โ€˜okayโ€™ game, but it was much worse at launch and itโ€™s still missing out on a lot of its potential. The unity is a garbage mechanic/plot device too, absolutely kills any desire to start the game over from scratch. Faction quests are okay, but most are too short and make you feel like an errand boy more than a protagonist.
>t. 100%โ€™d the game before the DLC.
Anonymous No.717754051
Starfield is one of the more definitive NPC experiences. It lets you experience what it's like to leave the map of the game world and virtually go wherever you want rather than be confined to a particular location all the time. It's kinda like how you'd imagine seeing Princess Zelda escape from Hyrule Castle with Impa, but you can actually follow her out into the wilderness beyond Hyrule instead of being blocked by low poly mountains and trees.

desu I'm not sure why people expect story to be good in Bethesda games at all. Writing hasn't been a focus of theirs in forever, but even games with a complete garbage story like FO3 can be fun if you enjoy crawling the dungeons.

Todd said that they recorded about 4 times more dialogues than for Fallout 4. After playing through all the main and side quests, there's been less dialogues than in Fallout 4 so far. Starfield has almost no quests to speak of. Cydonia and Jew Atlantis are the only quest hubs and Jew Atlantis bombs the player with radiant trash from the very first visit. Various named NPCs don't have much of anything to say. Companions in Fallout 4 had more dialogues than entire galaxy combined. Where's the dialogues, Todd?

I barely noticed them to be completely honest. On SSD they were very quick. And like >>717768702 says, every previous Bethesda game had them and it was never an issue before.

Also, loading is a issue in every game. Some try to hide it by having you walk through needlessly long corridors, squeeze through a crack or ride on slow elevators. I find those more annoying because you often can't shorten them by having good hardware. And since they're tuned for console load times they take way too damn long.

The fact that you can get up out of your seat and walk around the ship during a battle is actually amazing, I assume they put the simulator hack thing in the Vanguard quest just to show it off. Hell, they even have one quest where an NPC flies the ship where you walk around.

Wonder why they didn't add mutated humans ala Killzone or genetically engineered humans and make them look a bit like elves for the lols like Banner/Crest of the Stars. Also, where's stuff like AI/Holograms when it's 300+ years from now. Even FO3/4 had synths, why not in Starfield? Weird decisions for this boring ass setting.

I was honestly looking forward more to the Mods for this game than the game it's self. In a alternative reality this is the next Skyrim but in space but from what I've followed mods are lackluster and even veteran moders are not interested. Sad, I play on getting it when it's on a HYPER sale. They needed to keep the game in just 1 solar system, I think people underestimate how big space and planets could be.

A lot of veteran modders are professionals that are either commissioned and use it as a means to make money, or use it as a way to improve their portfolio. It's a much safer bet to go all in on Skyrim because 10 years from now you know plenty of people will still be modding and playing it, and, as a result, you'll be able top get a ton of work/engagement. Starfield probably won't be a thing in 10 years unless they really smash the next expansion, which I don't see happening.

Because they actually played the game and they don't just parrot opinions from clickbait youtubers. If you actually played the game you'd be doing side quests like the Space Pirate route (forgot the name) where you visit lots of new locations and a bunch of those locations are various ships. You do a heist on a large space cruiseliner and even eventually find a legendary lost ship with massive treasure.

Too many replies for an unnecessarily hurtful topic

Play the game, if you like it, keep playing it. If not, stop playing.

I understand that some of you might have expected greater things from Bethesda, but try to be impartial about the enjoyment of a game. If you can conquer your biases and look at the game objectively, you may be able to extinguish yet another anguish within you caused by promises not kept.

This game might have not been the hit you expected from Bethesda, but if someone likes it for the RPG it is, let them unless they say stupid shit like HOW BF6 IS FUCKING RETURN TO FORM WHEN IT COULDN'T BE THE FURTHEST THING FROM IT WTF BFBC DIDN'T HAVE PRONE AND EVEN THAT DIDN'T FEEL THIS COD-Y EVERYONE IS A FUCKING IDIOT DEMOCRACY WAS A MISTAKE

I liked Starfield but only because I'm a massive autistic faggot who plays open world games for the views. Like just exploring and finding perfect vistas to look at. I will spend hours landing in different places to get the perfect shot of a planet rise beyond a mountain range, or a nice canyon to build a base in.

I think they really fucked up the story by making you able to be friends with every faction at once. If there were permanent consequences to your actions, then you'd have a reason to do the new game plus mechanic the whole plot is built around.

NG+ is the dumbest thing they could have done.
Here is a way to build incredibly complex and interconnected bases that span the galaxy.
Here is a way to customize your ship in a trillion different ways.
Here is a way to gather a crew to fit your playstyle.
Here are a multitude of homes for you to customize.

By the way if you play the game as intended have fun doing all this 10 times.

I've visited over a 100 of planets at this stage and WOW... the lack of visual variety is something almost remarkable... planetscapes are more often than not totally flat, everything is the same distance apart, their is a serious lack of colour or depth. I wasn't surprised upon landing on a planet one single time, where there some pretty locations ? Yeah but they were not the norm, they felt like the occasion handcrafted map in a sea of lackluster proc gen.

Not to mention you can't change your Traits on NG+ cycles, and they somehow missed the fact people love the early game the most in their vidya. They read "people have been playing Skyrim for a decade" and interpreted it as people doing that all in one character and not starting a new one, getting to level 20, stopping, creating a new one, rinse and repeat. Being early game using steel swords and leather armor is what most people are familiar with, they don't give a shit about playing Starfield on NG+7 at level 120.

I've never beaten Oblivion or Skyrim.
The longest I've played a single character in Skyrim was when I did the Bard's Guild quest (I'm pretty sure it's singular) then naturally happened into the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC.
In Fallout 3 I'd make a character and do one quest (eg. Stealing Independence) and then make a new character afterwards. Although to be fair I played with 5x spawn mods and new enemies and the mod that added vertibird dropships etc. so downtown DC was literally a warzone.
In Fallout 4 I averaged out at level 30 before I start a new character.
