I don't care what they make for ratings, but I feel they shouldn't be able to dictate what a store can and cannot sell.

I find it funny a game like Darkest Dungeon is rated T but Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies is rated M because it has 1 scene with a little girl that has some blood on her, despite the fact there's only small amounts of blood at crime scenes and 0 gore in the game.

If anything, they would bribe them to get a T rating.
If I had to guess, it's because there's swearing, a lot of blood and grotesque body horror whenever the Flood are involved.
Halo 5 and Infinite are T iirc.

Ec and AO might as well not exist. Eveeything in-between is so clearly arbitrary that parents who actually care are more likely to choose on a game by game basis rather than by rating.
Anonymous No.717795472
>>717795334
Yeah, the rating doesn't really mean anything to a knowledgeable parent. Like my father would let me play Quake 2 and Halo when I was ten but wouldn't let me play Grand Theft Auto Vice City. A parent who isn't braindead is looking at content. Green space man shoots the aliens and saves earth was not nearly on the same radar a man smuggles drugs and hits hookers with car when I was a kid.

Funny thing, it was E10 originally. When you release a game digital-only nobody reviews it, you just fill out a form clicking what is in the game, and many of the questions are subjective or worded in a rather vague way. Same reason the Tomb Raider I-III remakes were M rated at first.

Once it came time to go physical, there was blood in the game (pic related) that the dev either missed or figured didn't count as "blood" cause it's revealed to be staged 30 minutes later. The ESRB freaked out and bumped the rating up purely cause of this one scene.

I don't get the point of Ec, but AO used to mean your game couldn't be published on consoles.
It was mostly reserved to porn games, but sometimes it was used as a form of censorship that meant developers had to cut content from their games and submit again.

I think it's cause you can shoot dead bodies & get blood-effects from them, they're pretty sensitive about "postmortem damage". A few games & the IARC questionnaire I mentioned in >>717795518 specifically mention it.

Reminds me of Halo, which 100% only got an M rating instead of T because unlike the otherwise equally violent shooters of the time like WW2 era COD and MOH, blood landed on the ground and walls instead of being just a short-lived particle effect.

Man, that reminds me of when the rating first came out. Somehow KH2, having the same content as 1, got bumped up to that level. Chain of Memories had Axel say "hell", and Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls had a couple "damn"s and "hell"s of its own. Crazy shit when you're young, swear words still make your friends giggle, and retarded american puritanism made you think swear words were some real taboo shit.

Can agree. I think parents and the elderly back in those times were way too overbearing with everything. Fake Blood, Swearing even a hint of death was really taboo for kids shows. Glad to live in an era where at least ESRB is not as harsh as it was back then.

The original Neptunia MKII was the only nep game rated M. It could have been because of one particular ending but the vita port of the game was rated T and even had a CG scene of little girls getting licked by a monster.

Jak II could have probably got away with a E10+ if there wasn't any swearing.
