Why "Vamp" Means Bisexual Here
In older slang, especially mid–20th century American and British usage, “vamp” could refer to a seductive person, often implying they could seduce anyone regardless of gender.
It’s a shortening of vampire in the sense of a “sexual vampire” — someone who “preys” on others’ affections.
In queer slang circles (especially in theater, nightlife, and espionage fiction), “vamp” sometimes got associated with bisexual or fluid sexuality because of that “anyone is fair game” subtext.
Kojima’s team was pulling from a grab bag of pulp and spy genre tropes for MGS2, so they probably found it amusing to give the “immortal” knife-fighter a nickname rooted in sexuality rather than just his blood-drinking shtick.
Snake saying it is partly deadpan humor — the player expects “Vamp” to be about his creepy regeneration and blood drinking, but Snake flips it with “nope, it’s because he’s bi.”
It subtly fits Vamp’s seductive, theatrical personality in the game — he’s tactile, flirtatious, and his close relationship with Scott Dolph (who is explicitly stated to be his lover) reinforces the bisexual label.
It’s also very Kojima to throw in strange but oddly specific personal trivia during a life-or-death mission.
