why the fuck do windows normies still bitch about linux gaming when proton exists? are you retarded or just bad at googling? fucking plebs.

i play teamfight tactics, which doesn't run on linux because of vanguard

most games that have kernel level anticheat don't work on it
that rules the most popular multiplayer games out, like fortnite and valorant
also, many normalfags use certain windows-only programs that they refuse to live without and won't seek alternatives to (e.g photoshop)

This cannot be understated. It's enough that just one piece of software they like doesn't work on Linux and then they will never think twice about Linux again. And if you make the switch you have to make hundreds of changes, not just one. People are honestly retarded if they can't comprehend this.
Anonymous No.717798378
I'm gonna be completely real with you. These "windows normies" that bitch about linux gaming don't exist.
Normalfags don't even know what they're using is called "windows". They're using a "computer".

I'm more wondering, why do they bitch about Linux when they've never used it and have no intention to? It's like they want to bring that gay console war shit to PC gaming. I hate Valve for making Linux gaming mainstream enough that I have to deal with these OS war niggers.

Like to get real with you there's people that got a steam deck that don't know you can just run Retroarch on it.
They think you NEED EmuDeck to automagically get console games for free.

Again "they" your bargain bin windows users don't, you're looking at a frankly silly billion dollar campaign to keep one of the most pivotal windows demographs from buying "a linux".

Linux is godlike for people that can at the very least script a little but shit for everyone else. I'm 30 years old and I have used Windows for all my life except I switched to Linux last year and I learned more about Linux in that year than I know about windows in the entire rest. Also I started writing large scripts that make everything just so much better when I never bothered doing anything like that in windows.

And I was always the PC guy everywhere I went.

>when proton exists?
I have no idea what that is and I don't really care to find out
I just want an operating system that boots and runs the software I need and Windows does that. That doesn't just include games either, I use my computer for work and there's all kinds of shit that I have no idea whether or not would play nice with Linux. There's enough shit to do in life, you don't need to create complications where there are none

You shouldn't be playing online games on wifi in the first place so the anti-cheat doesn't matter here.

windows is a fucking dumpster fire of telemetry, tpm, and secure boot bullshit. you're just a sheep following the herd, probably got your balls deep in the microsoft ecosystem. newsflash, fucknugget, linux boots faster, runs smoother, and doesn't spy on you. and if some shit software doesn't work, guess what? you fucking learn and compile it from source, or find an alternative.

the things this image talks about aren't faults of linux though, but of the people developing software then skipping linux support
there's not a single commercial OS out there that supports software and not the other way around

As soon as you bring up Linux on /v/, everyone is suddenly a professional artist who needs the full Adobe suite, or something like that. Curious.

I play games with anticheat and sadly linux is fucking SHIT at art in general.
Every second I waste trying to make something like a cracked adobe program work smooth is a second I could be using doing shitty work.

Protip: EAC supports Linux with the check of a box. It's developers faults if their game doesn't work on Linux due to a shit anti-cheat.

Sorry anon, Tim Epic doesn't want me playing Fortnite in anything that involves a penguin.
Not a lot I can do when the owner of the anticheat itself is a bitch.

I've seen people whom I've talked about switching to Linux with give me the Adobe spiel. These are regular nine to five people without even a hobbyist interest in art or digital media. When I ask them if they use Adobe products they usually say "No, but I'd like the option to." These are people who haven't used an Adobe product in their 30+ years on Earth but act like not having access/potentially needing a VM/dual-boot to use the software they'll probably NEVER use is an evil above all else.

I switched straight to Arch a while ago but am still forced to dualboot solely for clip studio paint. Actually even that was too much of a pain since Windows kept making the drives dirty even with hibernate off so now I just use a notebook exclusively for drawing in windows. Even with this inconvenience I can't picture myself ever going back to Windows, as I found Linux is so much better at basically everything.

How's the drivers for tablets? I use a Huion and been toying with the primal desire of changing to linux for a while

I have both a Huion Kamvas and a Wacom Intuous Pro, on KDE both worked out of the box, no extra installs required. It has built in drawing tablet menu which lets you set shortcuts, pressure etc.
It didn't recognize the Intuous Scroll wheel and one of the two pen buttons on the Kamvas.

I tried using Krita so many times but it just doesn't do for me. It has something that it does much better than CSP but I couldn't really adapt my workflow to it. For example I hate the eraser mode and transform/lasso tools in it.
CSP has so many insane windows dependencies (like edge???) I couldn't get it to work properly at all.

Me personally the only thing I missed from clip studio was the 3D tools, I just use some prefab mannequins and props in blender for references.

I have been using Linux as my main OS since at least 2007. I have had the earliest Steam Linux builds back in 2013, was probably one of the first to have it installed on a PC. Would play early releases like Half-Life 2, Portal, and was one of the first to play the Linux GoldSRC ports. I use to run Steam via Wine before the Linux Steam client was ever a thing. Had the first versions of proton for the Linux Steam client betas. Back in 2017 or 2018. Proton is basically DXVK, which started as a fork of Wine that utilized Vulkan. Valve forking that to Proton was probably one of the most genius things they have ever done.

The DOSBox comparison doesn't even make any sense, given that it is widely used on Windows as well. Every DOS game sold on GOG is bundled with a version of DOSBox, every DOS game stole on Steam also uses DosBox. Wine has always been hit and miss. But generally quite good for running a lot of common applications. Mac Users use Cider and Crossover compatibility layers to run Windows software. Those are generally derived from Wine.
