It was very mediocre. The blood codes offering build variety was the best idea it had, but ultimately it boiled down to stacking buffs and then deleting enemies instantly while the game generally played like any other sub-par Souls clone.
Hopefully 2 ditches the stamina meter and embraces the action more like AI Limit did.

Eh, wouldn't say that. It's very aggressive with regenerating resources on hit (and especially on parries) while being able to add special abilities and spells to its control scheme in a way that souls-games struggle with to this day.
The game could and certainly did throw lots of enemies at you in some situations, but crowd-control was actually doable in this game, mostly thanks to abilities. Meanwhile, DaS-fags get mindbroke if they have to fight more than three enemies that aren't the most braindead zombies.

the game is way too repetitive, so doing the side content feels like a chore, the level design is lazy at best most of the time, and the dlc is a scam, but at least the character creator is pretty good

i was really enjoying it untill the underground water boss, after killing it the cutscene that takes you back to base would crash my game and nothing i tried would let me progress so ill probably never play again

I had a lot of fun but I can see how it would butt bother a lot of people that are fundamentally hostile to non-From souls games

But I find the entire concept of 'you don't get healing outside of these limited potions between checkpoints, even with spells' to be even weirder. It's like the game was designed to be level by level but they didn't want to do it in the end.

I didn't really notice it being designed for the AI helper to be there rather than the AI helper just being a default easy mode. The bits where you trigger a mob of enemies that spawn and rush you down I mostly just ran away from and they pretty much instantly kill an AI helper anyway.

Truly the most blind fanboying I've ever seen.

I enjoyed it. Pretty fun in co-op or with an ai but doable solo if you just want to finish the main game (I didn't have the tism to finish the last bit of post game solo). I like how the spells are implemented and wish other soulslikes (at least from what i tried) pulled from this. Shiftkey access to spells without having to swap to a spell tool and feeding those spells with smacks is much better than what From currently uses. The only thing I fault the game for is the small amount of standard enemy variety; there's a lot of repetition when exploring. Actively swapping classes and using spells helps add to the variety and is encouraged though. Story and vibe is cringekino depending on your tolerance on anime bullshit. I liked it and particularly loved a run up in a desert section of the game.

I agree with most of this but I didn't like the smacks for resource as someone that just wanted to play a caster. Just having a regenerating magic resource OR a caster weapon that let you play like a caster even when not casting the big spells would have been nice. Otherwise I liked the game. I think the smack system worked for melee builds though and melee abilities or buffs.

Dark souls = slower pace, more tactical. Bigger punishes for player for wrong moves.
Dark souls 3 = faster pace, more action. Less punish cus some animation can be cancel into roll.

I liked the way they presented the memories, it was obviously done in this way with clay dolls to save budget, but they still managed to make it work and the atmosphere of these scenes was very well done

No. I played it to completion on a normal and then NG+ playthrough and can't think of a single redeeming quality except that it was very quick and easy to speedrun the second playthrough compared to the monotony of souls+ games. Since every level is actually just a small quasi-puzzle filled with ambush spam.

Its fun, but could use more enemy variety. Also it kinda sucks that you have to NG+ for the proper difficulty. You can only play on baby mode your 1st time through.

Considering it's the second best "Soulslike" after Elden Ring (which is only better because of the sheer scale of it), "good" is an understatement for Code Vein. Its only major failing is the poor postgame content, as the DLC and Tower of Trials weren't particularly engaging.
Otherwise, the intuitive storytelling, subdued yet sympathetic approach to characterisation, innovative systems like the companions and Blood Codes, excellent antagonists, varied environmental designs, intricate character creation, boss rematches in the Depths, sexy girls, generally high-tier soundtrack and serviceable area design all elevate it to being amongst the best.
With any luck, Namco will improve on the aspects of this game that had the most potential with the sequel.

Yeah, I really enjoyed slowly walking forward and waiting until the game sloooowly told me the nth despair story.

It was fun, and I enjoyed it more than Elden Ring. The post-game is terrible and it actually has a plot which made me feel more invested that DaS, but the gameplay itself is less polished. That being said, the decision to tie it into God Eater was probably the worst twist I have ever seen.
