I can accept Amy's character changing and being a more contributing member of her friends group rather than just "the girl" but it really should have been handled as a deliberate choice rather than just "let's stop doing that".

Have her realize there's more to life than being obsessed with Sonic and that there are things that make her happy without pinning it all on finally getting Sonic to give into a relationship. You know...actually mature.

Their Sonic Boom personalities are, more or less, what have stuck with them to this day. Boom Amy is that and still has a closeted obsession with Sonic.

They could have even done it in Sonic Frontiers, despite having already made the decision to alter her personality by that point. They really wanted to push a character-driven narrative in the game where everyone reevaluates what their relationship to Sonic is and that would have been the ideal time to just come out and confront the issue.

Have her reflect on how she spent her younger years believing that she could twist Sonic's arm enough to finally make him her's but getting nowhere with it because he isn't into that kind of relationship with the people he knows and coming to accept it. I originally thought Frontiers had already missed the boat by that point, despite the opportunity presenting itself, but even doing it in retrospect would have probably satisfied the need for character development. Instead they just let that opportunity pass by too.

Fundimentally, Amy was completely rewritten because whst she was at her core was what they didn't want anymore. They wanted to Thesius' Ship her by keeping her name, voice, etc but rewrite her personality. To be honest she still kept her fiesty attitude and her kind feminine gentle nature with, say, Cream, so I could accept if my initial stayement sounds hyperbolic, but it's a lot like Yoys for Bob taking Tawna from Crash Bandicoot and trying to de-Jessica Rabbit her.

1) You are talking about Sonic. You genuinely have a good chance of being better than the absolute FUCKHEADS that is over at SEGA. Ian Flynn got hired because his fanfiction and the like was just better than what SEGA was pumping out back in the day (and today, arguably).
2) It's not about being better than the original work, but providing the community with your takes and flavors. Much like how you can put anything on a hot dog like chilli, people want the core but have different toppings. Look at the chunky fatass Amy pics above to understand what people really want.
3) It's Sonic. EVERY autist have some absurd headcanon or creation with these damn vermin. You can't out-sped what this community have formed over the lifespan of this franchise. The floor is in 9th Circle of Hell, feel free to cross it at any time.
