this was just awful
>>717840119we don't sign our posts here
>>717840027 (OP)I loved it. I honestly think that it could become better than Persona if they continue to flesh it out
>but muh dating! You'll survive. These games were never about dating. All the "dating" amounts to is a 2 minute cutscene in a 100 hour JRPG. The social links in Metaphor are excellent because they aren't all teenagers.
>>717840027 (OP)It was ok. We could have had Disco Elysium anime edition but they decided to make it bland fantasy Persona instead
>>717840027 (OP)It's crazy how poor it looks compared to P3R
>low poly everything>AA isn't implemented>lighting is ass>textures are horrendous>story is the same clicheed Persona stuff minus the romanceThe reviews don't make sense
>>717840027 (OP)>PS5 yeah i can imagine that being pretty miserable. anyways, metaphor refantazio was one of the best games i've played on PC this year
Iโm overdue for a blasting of the sound track, thanks for reminding me faglord OP.
>>717840370the reviews didn't play the game past the first dungeon lol it's blatantly clear as well.
True Clair Obscure Expedition 33 is where jrpgs peaked and they'll never get better
>>717840370I like how you threw that bit in about the story when its clear you've never played the game. P3R is made in unreal. Metaphor is using the p5 engine from the ps3.
>>717840027 (OP)From this day, the only JRPG and ANIMR game to ever get a Bafta award.
the story takes a nosedive after the opera house event
>>717840602>when its clear you've never played the gameIt's literally get to location > power of friendship > go to next location. The social links are arguably even worse than Persona in that regard
>>717840670BAFTA's for gaming lost even the most miniscule amount of relevance they had the moment they gifted one to the Miles Morales guy (while snubbing Ben Starr)

>>717840872Lol look at the size of this cope lmao AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
>>717840484The big intro city is probably the most offensive part of the whole game graphicly. Sections of it look like they came out straight of day 1 PS2 games like Summoner
>>717840027 (OP)>What if persona but liberal propaganda
>>717840027 (OP)I liked it, but I have zero desire to replay it. And this is from someone who's played personas 3-5 at least three times each.
Nah, it was great. My favorite game from last year. I know this is just a shitpost thread but the only thing the game was missing was having the Mage Academy as another dungeon. Besides that it was pretty amazing and Im looking forward to Hashino's next game.
>>717840602The power of friendship ending ruins any level of nuance the plot had by that point. They don't even try to justify why the (liberal democratic) player is keeping the evil empire together and just say everyone is so happy under their new god emperor
>>717841769It's crazy that there's people out here who honestly think this slop was amazing, bing bing wahoo behavior
>>717841648I mean there isn't really any reason to replay it. One hard boss fight in the library, that's about it I think? No other content to redo everything for.
>>717840027 (OP)Actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. I thought Metaphor had a lot stronger writing than Persona has had in ages, and the fantasy road trip gimmick was a nice shake-up to the calendar system.
I thought the archetype system was fun too, though I think the Royal Archetypes kind of bungle it up by giving the late-game an obvious best-choice end-goal to work towards instead of forcing you to come up with your own fully customized party choices.
>>717840027 (OP)Why does the MC look like the MC from P3?

>>717841868Well i did start a solo character run like i do with most rpgs, but it's kind of a pain in the ass since you can't swap your entire party out for a long time, so i have to use cheat engine to lock everyone else's hp to 0.
Except since everyone's "supposed" to start at 1 minimum, having anyone dead when you start an encounter causes the game to crash, so you have to keep flipping their health around which got annoying.
>>717840027 (OP)Don't talk about persona 5 like that.

>>717841769Yeah, Rella and by extension Junah's backstory arc was the one thing I felt was rushed. I'd actually welcome the Persona Royal treatment if it gave the the chance to fill in what was probably supposed to be there in the first place, but I kind of doubt they'll go for it, being the first game of a new IP.

>>717841769Just happy Atlus had a good mascot character for once
>>717840872Switch E33 and Metaphor. Metaphor is the weakest one of all those RPGs
Has any major game villain from the last few years really been able to compete with Lewis?
Painted Renoir maybe? And the Subway Slammer.
I think Metaphor is an okay first entry for a new ip, combat was notably better than persona games, but the story and characters were notably mediocre in comparison, was like a 7/10 for me. The calendar mechanic did fuck all and did not need to be there though
>>717843341I don't know, maybe I'm just down on Persona 5 but I liked having a cast focused more on adults for once. You get to explore a cast that's actually okay with their primary mission being a political assassination, rather than awkwardly dancing around its own moral quandaries while writing villains that are cartoonishly evil enough to star in Captain Planet.

I think the optional dungeons are a chore by the end and they should have let me put Junah in a cute witch's hat instead of her default outfit, but beyond that I had fun
>>717843810I noticed this fucking thing localizers do where they change the original wholesome, cute, funny text into something out of rick and morty, full of snarkiness, hatred and bitterness. sad people

>>717843810Seems fine to me. Shitty localization is when the entire message is written out or replaced with a topical meme and internet speech.

Nobody played this everyone bout Clair Obscure Expedition 33 instead
>>717840027 (OP)It's not a bad game but I don't like it as much as Persona, and all the dialogue about discrimination gets really repetitive and grating.
>>717844719They fucked up the lore. Nidai being treated as worthless happened in the distant past. And then the race as a whole used magic to make themselves look better. So it's a racial trait. Junah didn't individually learn magic to look better. Her people did a long time ago.
Ummm it's okay that it's preachy and cringe because it's called METAPHOR?!?!?!? Do you even media literacy!?!?!?
>>717844839Atlus paypigs try to deflect to the narrative that metaphor is maligned because of culture war bullshit. The reality is every single facet of the game is mediocre at best and in some cases, like graphically, outright bad. If metaphor was properly rated as a 6 or maybe 7 out of 10 there would be no push back. It is the egregious claim that this middling forgettable and uninspired rehashed leftovers of typical atlus fare is deserving of a 9 and goty contention that sparks so much ire. Imagine if pokemon fans claimed scarlet and violet were 9/10 games and goty material. It's literally the same situation to a T.
Metaphor stings even worse because at least there was the hope that Atlus would shake things up and do a little innovation. That's what hurts the most. And atlus pay pigs defend this despicable behavior? Get the fuck out.
is the crack fully playable?

>>717840027 (OP)Outside of the wild tonal shifts, one of the best games I've played recently. It would have benefited by being more 60 30 10 harsh drama, character drama, comedy instead of 33 33 33
>>717845708Not really, what didnt you like?
The game gives you more jobs but they are useless lvl 1 so you have to grind them. The social links are pretty boring, disconnected from the plot, retardproof since thye will always move forward (meaning you dont have any agency on how they develop) and MANDATORY so you can get better jobs.
As for the combat itself, its just more of the same.
The graphics stay ugly.
The demo already gave you all the music you will be listening for the rest of the game, mostly.
The story is meh.
>>717845170>>717845562Hey, I really liked Metaphor and Rebirth. They were my favorite games of 2024. Is E33 really that good? I've been deterred from playing it because people are so hyperbolic about it, and its clear to me that a lot of people praising it don't play other JRPGs. The two of you are clearly JRPG fans, so I would like your informed opinions.

This game wasn't awful but it was a letdown for me.
I expected a new great RPG from Atlus, but what they delivered was a watered down Persona.
It was so extremely formulaic with boring as FUCK dungeons and enemy variety and encounter design.
Atlus is capable of much fucking better.
>>717840027 (OP)filtered, nothing much to say

>>717840027 (OP)It really, reeeaaaally lost steam after the first dozen hours or so. Even more than Persona 5 did. I dropped it somewhere in that horrendous dragon temple after meeting the chick with the eye in her forehead. What is it with Atlus and dogshit dungeons.
>>717840226>Teachers>Old people>A journalist>A school psychologistThe social links in Persona aren't all teenagers too. But I agree about the dating. Plus it's kinda in the game anyway. You can get flirtatious with basically all your female party members at the end of their links.

ใใใๆฝฐใใใใใจใใใใฏใใ ใSo the basic thing here is that it's a Utopia reference(the novel) and they're counter arguing against Utopia. So the jist of Heismay's argument here is that if you accept diversity and by proxy the individual differences between people, there's going to be strong people and weak people(Note this doesn't just mean physically it can also mean advantaged/disadvantaged). That will happen no matter what. And if there's no discrimination, then you have free competition which leads to the weak being crushed. So where they really screw up here is that they don't understand the actual debate.
>You cannot pretend at diversity without acknowledging individual differencesWhich is wrong. He's saying individual differences are inherent to diversity. And it's not that people will be judged as weak or strong but that weak and strong will exist. That's another inherent component of diversity.
>Equal competition doesn't mean equal footingis again wrong, No discrimination = free competition. And if you have the weak and strong freely competing, the weak will lose.
It's like they don't understand "equality" "diversity" are very broad concepts. This could apply to a lot of things, like using tariffs to make foreign goods more expensive and incentivize buying locally produced goods(This is historical use of tariffs). Or any kind of isolationists policies, showing preferential treatment to natives to maintain cultural identity. A lot of stuff like that. Or just the rationale for having government to begin with. Like Hobbes man in the state of nature thing.
>>717848118Yea sure, but he does love manipulating the masses, first with the funeral and then with making Wil transform. And he really did enjoy that.
>>717845396>Oh no, they re-wrote dialog to have a more human flow because direct translations to EN make every Jap sound like a robot with zero character voice. This is just autism. Especially because no, they still very much explain that it's a racial trait. Junah implying she learned glamors doesn't imply others don't. Bad translation is adding shit that wasn't there/adding your own fanfic. This is just sentence restructuring with clearer character voice.
>>717841479>The big intro city is probably the most offensive part of the whole game graphiclyYou're having a laugh if you think the city is bad when the N64 sand zone immediately before the city exists
>>717845963It's parry slop, so if you hate most JRPGs, you'll like E33. It was specifically designed for people who don't like stats. So do you like parrying? Your enjoyment is 100% contingent on that, it's the only real gameplay. The rest of the "builds" are completely illusory, you can wipe your ass on the stat screen, it's impossible to make a bad build, and the game throws you free respects literally all the time, so no builds are ever permanent either.
>>717848508What's the problem?

Additional reminder you do not have any way of understanding the intent behind the original Japanese script, and that means you have no frame of reference to judge whether any translation or localization is more faithful than another, literal or otherwise.
Final reminder that even if you were an anthropologist or a linguist, you would have at best a dog's level of understanding of what Japanese people mean when they say or write something in Japanese. But you are neither of those things. You are a fat fuck who consumes media and creates nothing.

So not only do you take zero damage and your build is irrelevant, it's the best way to deal punish damage to enemies too. It's what the gameplay hinges on completely. If you don't like parrying, don't fucking play it. I thought it was fun, for parry slop, but not a 10/10 masterpiece and I fucking hate all stories with a retarded "all a dream" twist. I predicted it was set in a painting at the very start since everything is paint terminology, and when they started revealing that bit I was genuinely groaning.
>>717853915>linear snake ass dungeon you can only go through once on a timer>sewer level>quarter of a mansiongame legitimately has like 3 major dungeons and one of them was straight up stolen from Etrian Odyssey it's impressive how half assed everything is

>>717854130>It's what the gameplay hinges on completelyYeah, it's the perfect way to add a skill curve to turn based battles.
You start every battle being cautious and dodging and failing a lot because you don't know the attacks. Then you start to learn the patterns and can dodge consistently, and then you start trying to parry and get punished for missing until you can finally parry consistently.
If your build sucks you won't survive long enough to learn because getting hit will wreck you. Every boss battle has its own incredibly satisfying arc of defeat, struggle, and triumph as a result. It also solves the problem of repetitive encounters because you've learned their patterns and can counter every time, making them take a fraction of the time. It's frankly astonishing so few JRPGs have tried this up until now.
>>717840027 (OP)Nah. Has some of my favorite bosses in a MegaTen game. I fought the hardest Tower Trial Dragon before all the others and 10 levels under level and it was a fucking blast adjusting my strategy to win. >>717840027 (OP)Not a fan of the gameplay. Found the job system barebones (playing it right after Crystal Project certainly didn't help), the dungeon design was very average and i don't like the social sim stuff from Persona. Didn't care for the story (to be fair, i don't care for 99% of video game stories, including stories that people usually praise like RDR2, TW3, etc.). The in-game graphics were genuinely subpar and the OST while not bad is my least favorite from any Atlus games since Strange Journey and Devil Survivor.
Overall a 6/10 for me. Crystal Project, Romancing Saga 2 and NEO The World End With You are much better JRPGs from this decade.
>>717864294Yea? I mean, you're proving my point.
But I think Atlus is especially nefarious because it gets a free pass for its lazy mechanics. Whenever you rate an Atlus game, you're alwaays grading it on a curve (i.e. "It's good for a JRPG!" ,"ATlus is a small company prease understand!"), never on its contributions to the genre. Because if you actually did, you'd be forced to admit that Metaphor Refantazio is a subpar visual novel with hours of mindless grinding.
Genuinely question: why do people praise the Press Turn so much? Isn't it bad when a battle system makes the choice-making part obvious for the player? Why shouldn't i abuse the enemy's weakness when i have the chance?
I dunno, when i think of a great battle system i think of Saga, not this.

>>717864832>Why shouldn't i abuse the enemy's weakness when i have the chance? This applies to literally everything.
>>717840027 (OP)Awfully good, Atlus did it again
>>717865524Your family says the same about you.
It's not bad, but it's not good either. It's meh. I would have preferred if all the monsters were surreal Bosch monsters instead of only a part of them, and also if the fighting mechanics weren't based on summoning persona-like things.
He doesn't look strong like a fighter, he doesn't look wise like a wizard, he doesn't look cunning like a rogue. He doesn't look like anything. He's neither cool, nor is he interesting in the slightest. I can't begin to fathom how how someone looked at this and thought this design was worthy of greenlighting
Can any Metaphorers sell me on this loser's design?
Am I safe to participate or is this a bad faith thread hater thread ?
>>717840027 (OP)I liked it a lot
>based as fuck characters and dialogue >fantastic ost by Meguro >fun combat with many different archetypes and skillsoverall just a ridiculously comfy game.
just thinking about it already swells me up with nostalgia and it was just last year.

is this one of those "Body Type A or Body Type B?" type games?

>The pacing is way better than anything in the Persona series [a series known for 12hr+ cutscenes]That's genuinely the only improvement, which is so fucking pathetic. I am genuinely ashamed at gamers for giving Metaphor Refantazio anything higher than an 82. Were we that delusional in 2024? I know people have a turn-based fetish, but this should not be the only metric for a JRPG.

>>717872192>Soejima is washed up and recycling design elementsWhile winning awards around the world I guess...
>>717840027 (OP)I skipped this after the demo. Atlus needs new material. Iโm not gonna buy the same game over and over.
>>717840027 (OP)I would play it but can't get past the faggy protag and the elf with the square ass. I hope they don't make the Persona 6 protag even gayer.
>>717858676Maybe if you're super optimizing the game with a guide or over leveling. Do it basically first opportunity on a first time playthrough on hard and tell me it's not tough.
>>717866962it's a shitposters' thread that he keeps trying to bump out of desperation
>>717841862>eight hours into the thread and he still hasn't explained what was wrong with the gameYou love to se it.
Also a game can't be terrible with an antagonist this great. It's rare to have a video game were you root for the "villain"
>>717866617This is what cool looks like to Japanese people sadly. Men with effeminate features. Meanwhile tall, muscular men with a buzz cut, which is what's cool in America, in Japan they think that shit is gay. They are literally the opposite of us.
Also just noticed if you zoom in and only look at the legs you would think is a woman. lmao

>>717872827Of all the awards that Metaphor Refantazio won in 2024, this was the most insulting. The game has literal anime episodes that play in between scene transitions. Not model-based. Not pre-rendered. Just fucking anime. That basically guaranteed the tranime vote.
>>717866962any thread that starts with a short setence saying some stupid shit like "this us awful" and the threads gets to bump limit is a bad faith thread. The only reason this one hasn't faded is because the schizo keep bumping it. this is what they do.
>>717872827Still baffled by this when the in game environments look like they have ps1 textures while running like shit
i feel like theyre gonna release the enhanced version at some point and probably make the rabbit girl playable
>>717873751The outfit designs are so genuinely off-putting. It's like sojima got high while watching fashion show while forgetting that those outfits are purposefully made to look to grab your attention and not in a good way

>>717875082The false idolized perfect world of a fantasy that is our reality.
>>717840696My theory is that they had more planned but it got scrapped. The story really rushes to the finish by then, and you realize that most of the church villains are completely pointless and just fade away hoping you don't notice after Forden dies. Rella's conflict is also rushed then pushed out of the way ASAP.
>>717840027 (OP)Atlus tards have the lowest standards of any demographic
>>717873089The "optimizing" is pumping either offensive stat then killing everything with a physical team with Masquerade Charge. It's trivial to do and only a retard would need a guide to point out how busted it is.
>>717873751>>717874581You didn't play the game

>>717876203Again, you're over leveled if you're winning in one turn. Also how exactly do you plan to kill the Trial Dragon that I'm talking about, that Repels literally fucking everything except Almighty with Phys when there is no skill that grants a Phys weakness that isn't already a Phys skill? You didn't actually play this game or you played on Normal.
>>717840027 (OP)Honestly, the only part of the game that really stuck with me was the whole Moore reveal. That was peak.
>>717840027 (OP)commie tranny game for niggers
Overall I enjoyed the game but the only thing that fucked me up was each character seemingly being on a different set of rules for their naming scheme.
Some use their last name as "main" when their first name is perfectly fine and applicable, some use their first names only etc.
I thought about this for the entire 80 hours i put into the game trying to rationalize what could have been the decisions from JP devs, EN devs and whoever else would be involved in those decisions.
>>717878373Rampage Slash+Royal Sword+Masquerade Charge, just like all the others. It's baby shit.
What, do you have to be told that skills that ignore resistances are going to be strong?
lol
