>muh exclusives
It plays PC exclusives all the way to the 80s. The main advantage of the Deck is being able to install whatever software you want without doing a stupid and pointless jailbreak humiliation ritual in order to uncuck your hardware that you should rightfully own.

>but any laptop/umpc/phone can do that!
But the Steam Deck does it best because it is LITERALLY designed for playing PC games (that were never designed for a controller) thanks to the trackpads, back buttons, capacitive joysticks and Steam Input. Wanna know why? Because the left trackpad can be used for hotkeys, the back buttons are also used for hotkeys, the capacitive joysticks can be used for gyro activation, and Steam Input makes it piss easy to set it all up. Meanwhile the rest of the competition is still trapped in Microsoft's xInput dogshit.

No you canโ€™t run windows without problems like keyboard/mouse and have to buy them. Itโ€™s not built for windows when Steam Proprietary glitched out causing lag and other issues. Thatโ€™s not how switching storage works, Valve clearly will not allow their Proprietary to be removed. They will become like Microsoft.

>>717866589
You cannot run Doom without Proton. See how weak the Steam Deck is compared to Mac/Windows. It also canโ€™t play Genshin Impact, Infinity Nikki, Azul Line, Blue Archive and LOL. Games outside the Steam garden will never be playable. Just like how Mac used to do things.

Got the SD during the summer sale, after Nintendo's greed with the S2 finally made me want to stop giving them money.
Already played Pokemon Colosseum and Hollow Knight on it. Currently playing Sardew Valley and MH Rise (both of which I played well over 100 hours on my Switch 1 already). Also have some other GC and a bunch of GBA roms set up for later, and even managed to get Tears of the Kingdom to run better than it does on the S1 (along with a few other Switch games)
Thanks for waking me up, Nintendo.
I'm just mildly annoyed that it took me buying the Deck for rumours about Valve working on the Deck 2 to come out a couple weeks later, but still worth it

Yeah it's great that I have to waste time turning on my mobile data and letting the Deck connect to the internet, start my game, quit my game, go offline mode, and then start my game again.

Depends on your budget. The OLED is just the objectively better model. But the LCD Deck is still very good if the extra $150 is that big of a jump. You can also just wait and watch the refurbs and hope to nab one on sale. If you mainly want VNs then one of the other windows based PC handhelds is probably fine too.

Not only can you easily Goldberg your games to not require steam completely but also Steam cares way less about you being offline than ever
Even in the worst case scenario where steam automatically logs you out after several months of offline you can connect to your phone hotspot for a minute to restore it

No, Steam Deck lacks real open source, people in Linux could have fix many issues but Valve refused to be open source. There is still the heavy issue that all these handhelds have and none of them try to copy the same tech from 2000s. Steam Deck isnโ€™t completely repairable, you can see ifixit missing a lot of important hardware and so if that one important hardware is gone the Steam Deck is a brick. Lastly itโ€™s still cheap China hardware and can be easy copied which means someone can make a better product (picture as reference).

I adore the deck for that reason alone.

Gabe and Valve made a portable PC with every control possible as if it was something they would want to play themselves. I don't have to give Steam my fucking credit card and driver's license to use the damn thing in a way that some corporation approves of. It's mine and do what I want with it.

If I want to install Amiga 1000 software on it, I'm fucking going to without any weird hardware tricks. I'll play Shufflepuck Cafe with the touchpad if I feel like it.

You are part of the problem anon, you supported a corporate entity. They are literally in lawsuits against stolen patents. They were refusing to give free refunds in Australia. Making it smaller would make it worse
Now you're cutting cooling, battery size, ergonomics, screen readability and forcing the user to hold it closer to their face
And for what benefit? So it can fit inside your skinny jeans?
It's a gaming device, if you want something phone sized just wait for the proton arm64 to be rolled out to android, it's already on the way

>They are literally in lawsuits against stolen patents
Never heard of them and don't care. Patents are for fags.
>They were refusing to give free refunds in Australia
The rolled out refunds globally when they didn't have to. Corporations like nintendo still do not offer refunds.
>They lied in court when confronted about their claims of ownership
Never heard of this and don't care. Anyone with an IQ above 90 knows they don't literally own the video game they buy. The freedom and control over their copy of it is what matters and PC offers that in spades.
>They make you sign a contract that stops you from suing them in a class action lawsuit.
They don't. You're free to sue them.

But most importantly, they made the best goddamn vidya device ever made, they pulled pc out of an irrelevant drm hellscape, they're saving linux, they facilitate a dirt cheap key market, and they offer a shitload of features and services that everybody takes for granted for free.

Right now, as far as corporations can go, and in this industry, they are the good guys.
