After 2-5, what's the best Danganronpa case?

3-4

2-1 actually
>good setup
>not instantly obvious
>plan is actually realistic and not too convoluted
>gets hijacked by a counter-plan
>motive is just plain and simple "I want to leave", with mental gymnastics for why killing Nagito would be a good thing so he isn't in the wrong
>iconic "meat on the bone"

3-3 is so bad it wraps around to being a masterpiece.
They couldn't have made it more they retarded even if they had tried.

1-3 was the original Midgame Case and all subsequent Midgame Cases had to take after it and therefore all Midgame Cases by convention had to be double murders, had to be over the top, and had to be preceded by some kind of contrived and nonsensical conflict as setup.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why they arbitrarily decided to make it so every game would have the same repeated blueprint for the cases, and then complain about it getting repetitive by the end. What the fuck?

I liked 1-3, it has the element of 3-5 but it doesn't feel like it solves itself. 3-5 could have been great if every debate wasn't started by Kaito/Oma going "Oh gee I hope Shuichi doesn't bring up ~this~ piece of evidence!"

It's pretty stupid

However there's actually another reason which is to do with how mystery stories are structured
The idea of a second act low point comes earlier or later in a mystery story and the middle section meanders as a result
You can see this in basically every mystery novella from the 17th century onwards and it is hard to unnotice once you see it

The middle is less important and gets less attention

Honestly, CASE 1-1 is great and I'm tired of people using the 11037 writing as "heh gotcha, it sucks"
>Great twist of Sayaka being the original attacker
>Character's talents are an actual factor in how the murder was performed
>Trial doesn't make over-the-top justifications for the murderer. It's just self-defense that spiraled into one
>Amazing first impression for an execution with no comedic relief like the other ones
And if you don't immediately see LEON on the wall, it's a fun revelation to have mid-trial

To this day, I still think this is the worst "lost in translation" moment ever. It's very clever in Japanese because it uses the Latin alphabet, but it's embarassingly obvious for Europe and America. Just one of those unfortunate things I guess.

That first execution does stick with you, i do love the presentation of all three games but weirdly i feel like there was a style degradation with each title. DR1 has the most amazing art style, so much deep, crushing, oppressive blacks in the sprite art and environments in lieu of variable shading. You can see what im talking about in this pic of Leon. Awesome

Does anyone here know how the Japanese fans received this case? I'm pretty sure it is common for Japanese schools to teach English, so even if it is the Roman alphabet, it should've still been pretty obvious, right?

2-4 for me. Them figuring out how an elevator works was kind of frustrating and the octagon shit was retarded but as a whole it was a good case/chapter
Anonymous No.717878897
>>717878720
It was receively very positively. If 1-1 didn't land in home territory, Danganronpa was never going to be a franchise.
Also, it is common for what is diplomatically described as "conversational English", but I promise you, this kind of logographic puzzle is truly a puzzle for those who use different characters. It sounds obvious, think about it though, the way your brain processes the symbols is so different that you might just think they're random lines in the wall beyond the "numbers".

It’s because the early cases set everything up and establish the stakes, and the later cases pay everything off, so the mid cases are just filler.

If you like Dangan, I think you'll still enjoy it even though it's not as good overall.
I think it has one of the coolest and most bonkers endgames Kodaka has ever written, it unironically kind of redeemed the game for me.
