Yeah it was. Guess less people showed up due to ESA being back and the 3 week streak. Last year it was RTA that was dead, only being kept alive with just image dumps. But probably the nintendo shit infected the thread, also explains why that retard was sperging so much.

Experimented with Archipelago recently, looks like fun. It's basically a tool for a randomizer over a limited (and growing) array of possible games and players, with the items being switched between games.

Not sure how to find games which work well together, though. If you have Zelda and Super Metroid for example, and the SM morph ball is on Zelda Ganon, the Metroid player would be stuck forever. Technically solvable, if the Zelda player can reach Ganon without held from the SM player, but not good for playing.

It's hard to feel engaged with those runs, because even if you know one of the games well enough to appreciate a speedrun, it's guaranteed to be such a clusterfuck of custom rules, interdependencies and very small screens, that one is guaranteed to lose interest quick. And those runs also tend to be long, after all it's multiple games, and they won't go through the complicated setup just to make a 20min-run.

>>717913427

I wonder how to even identify games that work well. There's a game list on the archipelago page, but I wonder if there's another way to find games that have good synergy, except trial and error. And even if it worked well once or twice: The randomizer can still screw you up the next time.

I guess safe picks are games where there aren't many item restrictions on item location checks.

Well, at least those aren't overly long, and I actually enjoy roguelikes. Still, usually they don't make great speedruns.

Have to say I'm not very impressed with BSG so far. No idea why this got hyped by some Anons in the wake of the ESA drama. At its best it has some solid speedruns, at its worst it has long slogfests of boring games, tons of shitty gimmick runs, tons of she/her/it/it-shenanigans, and overall the entertainment factor is rather low. I gladly admit that I watch mostly for entertainment, not a pseedrunning purist. But I guess that applies to most watchers. Still I think ESA, ASM and Dogwater all were better.

I don't think any of the rest of the staff ever said anything about Metako. For Metako, I don't know any other statements than those from Das, which sounded reasonable, and she also sounded pretty confident about them. However, who knows through how many brains those informations went before they were posted here, so it would be nice to hear something from Metako himself. However, since this has not happened after such a long time, it is unlikely that it will ever happen. It's far more likely that the situation simply looks different fro what we know, or (and that's the most likely option for me) that he, after cooling off for a while, has decided to not fan the fires, and this would be a very reasonable decision - sadly this means that we will be left in the dark.

Keep begging for the merge buddy, it's not going to happen.

While I'm sure there is some overlap between RTA and BSG, what I don't understand is why you can't just look at 2 threads. I would much rather have 2 "dead" on-topic threads than a single thread where it takes 3 seconds to work out if a post is about event A or B because if you go "man this guy on screen has a stupid shirt", how am I supposed to know what you're talking about?

With ASM and dogwater, maybe there was more overlap, I don't know, I don't watch a lot of events. But there are multiple spergs in the other thread who have no interest in BSG, and the solution to that isn't to go "I don't care I like both events lets talk about both here", the solution is 2 threads.

Yeah it's clear you do, because it's normal to combine the threads for smaller events. ASM and dogwater had no problem coexisting, we had ESA and RPGLB overlap despite both having way more traffic. Last year there was some retard that also tried to split the BSG and RTA threads, which lasted a day until people realized it didn't work and we went back to a shared thread. There is just a single sperg this year that is baiting, which people should just have ignored. That sperg is probably you, considering your first sentence. So have your (you). And if you're not, you're a newfag that is taking a single spergout serious while not knowing how it has been done for previous threads. So why should we take your opinion serious?

I've seen a lot of posts like this but I don't really know what people were expecting. Anons kept talking up ASM and then for most people it was a succession of long night time low energy runs.

I thought it was a pretty solid event BUT the expectation that people would know ahead of time that it was an event organised by JRPG speedrunners is just asinine. I've been watching speedrun events for years and I barely know who any of these people are, let alone the seemingly endless gossip that surrounds a bunch of runners. But now I'm complaining about the people complaining about the people complaining during an event that's over so I digress.

IMO ASM managed to be good during sleepy time hours, even the Pokemon run managed to be enjoyable. There were a few dull runs but it's the night shift so whatever. I feel like the bigger problem with JRPG runs is that if they aren't good then you are stuck for 4 to 8 hours (like basically every Pokemon GDQ run).

Also dogwater actually lived up to the HOIPE
