Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
Any of you played this game?
Anonymous No.717897360
Yeah, it looks nice but it's really basic. It plays almost exactly like Genshin's tower defense mini-game, imagine charging money for that
Anonymous No.717897410
I did
It was alright
Like that Capcom are making new IPs again. Will play Pragmata too.

realistically the budget was probably too big for the kind of game it is

Great game, it unironically feels like a PS2 game released today, it's experimental and fun, definitely worth playing if you actually like video games

>experimental
People say that but it hardly does anything new. Just looks wacky

Yeah I finished it. It was really fun but takes a while to get going. Very slow intro. Once you unlock the skill tree, game opens up. Much better. My only complaint are the visuals. Environments are dull with no variety.

Why isn't it experimental? I can't think of a game that has a gameplay that similar to it

One of the better games I've played these past few years. I should get around to getting the true end

From interviews, many of these environments are hand crafted and then scanned, that is cool and all but this game is hyper focus on tokugawa period Japan, Shinto architecture specifically and if you want more then I have some bad news for you...

There's a ton of tower defense games with action elements. Like I said earlier, Genshin's tower defense mini-game has the same basic loop
>you build towers, traps and deploy units
>enemies spawn through gates and walk towards your base
>you run around hacking and slashing them while your towers, traps and units do their thing
>after that you get to upgrade your buildings and units
Except Genshin also has the elemental reaction layer on top of it I guess

The enviroment variety also picks up later on, I'd say. The snowy town and the cave was my favorite.

More artsy than game.

I'm watching a gameplay video of this mode and it looks pretty similar to Orcs Must Die, which I have more experience with, so I'm going to compare to that
I don't think it's that similar, because the difference is that in Kunitsu-Gami you control units instead of placing towers, so I feel like it's closer to something like Total War than your average tower defense game/mode

I played the demo and it was pretty neat, I think I might buy it if its on sale again sometime soon.

Isn't that basically the entirely of the tower defense genre? I would like to argue by having heavier focus on the character themselves, enemy movesets and the mobile units rather than the buildings, endless hordes and the immobile traps, they already experimented with it alone.

But the more important part is rather how the game builds with the tower defense genre, by following a level structure where you're constantly pushing rather than defending, literally forcing you to move on to another art museu- village.

You know, you just reminded me Capcom tried to advertised it again... it was the worst shit I've ever seen never attempt it ever again https://youtu.be/kPkC962PRHs?si=2Xtt24B_fzBKwMmj

>control units instead of placing towers
You could place units in Genshin's mode as well, they ran that event multiple times, that was a later mechanic. You couldn't direct them during combat though
>>717898249
>having heavier focus on the character themselves, enemy movesets and the mobile units rather than the buildings
I mean Genshin did the same... And I'm sure it wasn't the first who did that. When gacha does something as a mini-game, the idea is not novel anymore

I enjoyed the demo. It's on my wishlist. I didn't buy it day one cause I was tight on money when it's released but now that I have plenty I also have some other games to play. I'll probably get it soon on autumn sale

Yeah it was aight. I was mostly pleased to find out that Capcom still has some people who remember what art direction is.
I also liked the puppet kino https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=124HrR-M0iQ

>new roguelike gamemode just got added
>base game is full of content (town upgrades, levelling up your troops and Soh, challenges on every map, tsuba guards and the rope talismans or whatever they're called)
>ng+ adds new modifiers, enemy spawns, challenges for every map, a true ending and a remixed soundtrack

This game is the director's dream game that he always wanted to make. Even if you don't like it, it's easy to tell that the team poured their hearts into making this. Also I'm convinced that said director has huge dirt on the company higher ups or is good friends with them, like Yoko Taro. That's the only logical explanation as to why this game got as much of a budget as it did

It's a miracle for a game like this to be released by capcom of all developers

Didn't know they kept updating it. Thought it was abandoned. Is it because they are porting it to Switch 2?

It's a pain. You have to play through the entire game again with zero changes in order to fight another boss. Dunno why that couldn't have just been the first playthrough

Maybe Itsuno got thrown under the bus for this game to happen
Anonymous No.717898975
>>717898874
3 million sales is alright I guess, but we have to remember the developers immedaitely got relocated for Wild or it's because of the franchise's associations with the main developer, Itsuno, leaving the company and I hope to god it's not a Mega Man incident with Inafune.

Crapcom never went into remission as hoped; instead metastasising and spreading to all departments.
Anonymous No.717899128
>>717898968
Come on... you don't think Itsuno got thrown under the bus again right? This is his life work mate, over the course of 20 goddamn years, just because Monster Hunter got accepted and his game got rejected doesn't mean it's the same scenario right?

In all seriousness, it's probably not as dramatic as we think, Itsuno already made reservation about leaving as soon as he makes DMC5 and then DD2 after the debacle that is DmC: Devil May Cry.

It reminds me of Clover's games from the early-mid 2000s. Stuff made by Capcom's best guys without a hope of ever turning a profit, just something to add to their pedigree. Somewhere in that big corpse of Monster Hunter and RE remakes is a glimmer of talent making shit for the sake of it.

First, it would not be in this timeline, 2000s Japanese games about Shinto lineage is like a niche within a niche, and this game seems to be made as a one off.

Second, much more hyper specialize units, the game has issues where some units overlap each other and are functionally better, Canooner is better than Archer in crowd control, Spearman is better than Woodcutter in close range killing, some invalidate other roles, so I would love to have much more hyper specialized units, hyper specialize is the specific wording because niche would be Priest being there to purify toxc pools and he is basically useless.

Third, a heavier emphasis on the unit's mobility, unlike other tower defense game, these are people with legs and the levels are designed around that, the issue with that is in this game, their response time after being commanded to move is decent... but not fast enough, and with the amount of defensive mechanics, it's far better to bunker down rather than tell them to go out of position intentionally which sounds like I just want an RTS now that I think about it.

There are so many things I would love to see get expanded or modded into the game, but it only sold 600K copies, this is not a well known game and we are basically FUCKED.
