The generally how I personally use the premium resources in these kinds of games is that I use the initial stash that the devs give me for the gacha. So I rolled a few new horses and then put the rest to the support cards just to get something to start with. After that I saved enough for 200 rolls on a single banner: that way you can guarantee at least one copy of the cards or horses on rateup/promotion in that banner. Now I'm saving for the the big banner in February. Generally you're advised to roll only if you have 200 rolls, although I often do "meme" ten rolls in games like Granblue if I have "spare change" in gacha currency.
R support cards are not very good but sometimes usable if you have no alternatives. SRs can be good and SSRs are not automatically good either. I still uncap everything I get but it's not optimal. It depends on the uma, running strategy and distance which cards you want in a deck. 3 speed + 3 power for sprint and 3 power + 3 stamina for longer races are okay starting points. Just lurk and ask around for people's decks.
Races are randomized. Sometimes your skills might not activate and sometimes you might get boxed and mobbed by other umas. In the next try you might just win.
