Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Why was it so poorly received among fans of the series?
Anonymous No.717976437
Is the splinter cell series dead?

1.) All the marketing pointed to it being a third person shooter rather than a stealth game.
2.) No Ironside playing Sam.

Autistic fanbase that will hate on anything that's not Chaos Theory.
Blacklist was a decent game and a massive improvement towards the right direction but no one gave it a chance and the franchise is now dead.

>a massive improvement towards the right direction
Hard disagree. Turning a slow and methodical stealth game franchise into a 'stealth is optional', clear the room like John Wick action game is not the right direction for Splinter Cell. Sam Fisher was an out-of-retirement spec ops that had to worry about his back acting up. Conviction and Blacklist tried turning him into Captain America

Stealth isnt optional though, many missions required stealth,

1) No Ironside.
2) Deemphasis on pure tactical and methodical stealth and more emphasis on action and killing; what older style stealth/ghosting is there was clearly just thrown in because of the back lash against Conviction.
3) Conviction caused people to be wary of the series, and Blacklist showed it was more like Conviction than previous entries and it kept older fans away.
4) The aesthetic went from a realistic/grounded Western tacticool style to an anime/comic booky Sci-fi tacticool style.
5) It's an Ubisoft game.

Same.
Also which was the splinter cell where it was just a shooter and you were killing dozens of russians in the white house?
Anonymous No.717978851
>>717973767 (OP)
Gameplay wise it's the best game in the whole series and nothing came close but the character of Sam was beyond retarded. The story was dogshit. And casting an very obviously 30 year old dude as a grizzled and abused veteran who is supposed to be in his 60s was the final nail in the coffin. That is what killed the game.

where the fuck should start? how about the fact instead of the mouse wheel speed scrolling from almost every other SC game they gave you two options, awkward slow walking and awkward slide-ish running with automatic vault/climb like assassin's creed?
how about the fact that ironside wasn't there after voicing sam for the entirety of the character's existence, despite having helped the character's writing process?
how about the fucking stupid forced combat sessions that we should have left in SC1?
how about the fact that the entire game is a fucking complete character death for both sam and grimsdottir?
the stupid fucking upgrade system, the stuff locked behind DLC that you couldn't play unless you modded the game, half the content being locked behind coop
how about the awkward stealth where darkness never truly hides you unless you are behind some cover like its a fucking uncharted game or something, and even then if you're on the edge of the cover they still somehow see you?
>>717978190
>>717978735
also exactly what these anons said.
despite what you faggots say about conviction, it was a much more grounded game that at least knew the direction it wanted to go to. Blacklist failed at both the older style and the Conviction style.
>>717977905
I notice your fucking faggot ass trying to push this opinion in every splinter cell thread and I suggest you fuck off already, nobody thinks you're cool for being a contrarian you fucking dimwit. You don't get fucking upvotes around here for talking crap about chaos theory or going on rants about how "LE EVIL CHAOS THEORY PLAYERS ARE OPPRESSING ME" or how "LE BAD GAME WAS LE GOOD ACTUALLY".

holy shit, what a fucking massive faggot you are. what the fuck did this board do to attract halfwit contrarians like you? I get that blacklist was your first splinter cell and you're too much of a fucking sperg to put your pride aside and just accept chaos theory is the best in the series but why do you have to announce to the whole board you're a fucking faggot? If you're so starved for attention why not go to one of those steam ID threads or some shit like that?

>where the fuck should start? how about the fact instead of the mouse wheel speed scrolling from almost every other SC game they gave you two options, awkward slow walking and awkward slide-ish running with automatic vault/climb like assassin's creed?
What's wrong with that? You don't need to walk at a snail's pace when the main focus of the game is action stealth
>how about the fact that ironside wasn't there after voicing sam for the entirety of the character's existence, despite having helped the character's writing process?
Ironside was dealing with multiple cancers at the time.
>how about the fucking stupid forced combat sessions that we should have left in SC1?
They're not stupid and Sam doesn't participate in them
>how about the fact that the entire game is a fucking complete character death for both sam and grimsdottir?
The stroy has never mattered in Splinter Cell
>the stupid fucking upgrade system, the stuff locked behind DLC that you couldn't play unless you modded the game, half the content being locked behind coop
The upgrade system is great and facilitates multiple different styles of play, far more modular than the original limited loadouts in Chaos Theory
>how about the awkward stealth where darkness never truly hides you unless you are behind some cover like its a fucking uncharted game or something, and even then if you're on the edge of the cover they still somehow see you?

>What's wrong with that? You don't need to walk at a snail's pace when the main focus of the game is action stealth
so the game isn't a fucking splinter cell game, retard. it's a reskinned assassin's creed game with guns.
>Ironside was dealing with multiple cancers at the time.
I know. So the game shouldn't have existed. If it really did have to exist, why the fuck is Sam a cocky 25 year old?
>They're not stupid and Sam doesn't participate in them
Yes they are. And he does.
>The story has never mattered in Splinter Cell
nice job outing yourself as a fucking retard. the entire reason sam was such a unique character was because of his dry humor and how he valued the "human-side" of things more than just "doing the job", canonically disobeying lambert's order at times to do things like save the downed pilots in south korea and so on.
>The upgrade system is great and facilitates multiple different styles of play, far more modular than the original limited loadouts in Chaos Theory
the choices don't matter much when the fundamentals of the game are shit, you retard.
>Makes sense to me, at the edge of cover, they'll see your head
you retards really say anything for replies

The slow paced steath had already reached its peak in CT, there's nothing more with evolving the series

a game doesn't need to reinvent the wheel everytime, anon. that's what leads to bad sequels. they should've stuck to the formula from the trilogy and that's that.

oh, I didn't, did I? What's this?

Chaos Theory is one of my favorite games ever and I liked Blacklist and replayed it at least 3-4 times. You can still go full stealth if you want so I dont see the issue. And just like the first game ever, it has some forced combat scenarios so even hardcore fans cant really say that Splinter Cell is not being "true to itself".
And the casuals now have the option to run and gun all they want which doesnt affect stealthGODS in any way.
