It's a classic story in the industry. Guy has orginal idea for a story but no one wants to take the risk so he Trojan Horse's his way in through an existing franchise. This might turn out to be a great J-horror game but it will never be a Silent Hill game.

I was really surprised by how cool Japanese men look. I thought all best Japanese men died in WW2 like in Russia or Germany but no, there are still good genes there. In China is the opposite — girls are incredible and guys look like they came from Mao reeducation camps

What do you mean canon? Except for 1 and 3 there's no explicit continuity between any Silent Hill games.

There are some minor ones. In SH2 we see a seal of Metatron at the hotel, which is on the side if the town SH1 takes place, a remnant of Alessa's attempted deicide. Also, some of the nurses james encounters have the parasite hunch, which is interesting. SH2 gives us an article about Walter, and SH3 an article about the orphanage he grew up in, written by Joseph, both tying to SH4.
