Siren can control enemies from afar, Red Shoes is a melee distraction/tank while Cinderella deals the damage from afar. Is the pacing so poor because they don't want to have too many "filler" levels? They made it so that hourly rewards are tied to how many levels get cleared, and once you beat hard and the campaign you can rack up an insane amount of cores, and potentially hit max level easily if you're a whale. Anons, seeing how you have a lot more experience both in Nikke and in gacha games in general, I need some advice, whether I should stick with it or just bail. I feel like something is missing, which I'll try to explain below. Maybe you'll be able to prove me wrong, or maybe you'll confirm my hunch. I'll try to keep this logical, and avoid going full subjective, as there's no point in saying "I don't like it because I don't"

So first things first. I'm not exactly fond of the whole gacha mechanic, but I'm willing to understand that it's a good way of making money and the game has to earn cash. Understood - I don't like being milked for money, but I think I'm able to keep a clear mind while plying and make it so, it doesn't affect my enjoyment. Seeing how this was the first gacha I've experienced, I tried going in with an open mind. This also means that I haven't spent any money and I'm not sure I intend to - more about this later. Right now I think I've played around 8 hours, so I'm rather new to the game.

I think I was able to split the game into the following parts, which create the experience by impacting each other: Story, Gacha (of course), fanservice, action gameplay, "downtime" gameplay. I'll try to explain how I believe they work with each other, so you can understand my pov.

1. Story - to be honest I think that while it's not exctly oscar-winning writing, it's one of the main things that keeps me playing. I feel like I'm treating the whole game as a visual novel with combat breaks, for better or worse. I'm not sure how long the story is, and I kinda expect there isn't much left, since this is mainly a gacha game.

2. Gacha - Pull lever, open box with pretty animation, get dopamine. I don't have much comparison, but I think this is servicable. Even without cash I get to reliably recruit new Nikkes, sometimes more than 1 a day as a reward. It's pleasant, generally no issues here.

3. Fanservice - here's the first issue I've run into. Sure the art and voice acting is nice, but right now I'm a bit underwhelmed by what is offered. Bear in mind I only maxed the bond with Emma, but if this is the standard here, then I don't really see myself playing for the sake of getting to know the characters. Some short message exchanges, 8 sentence discussions which include one choice and a fade to black with "you speak with [Character] about [current topic] some more", and 5 longer discussions which include some of the few available idle animations during dialogue, is not enough to really make someone care about the character.

4. Action gameplay - When I first saw videos of how the combat works, it seemed really simple, to the point where I was hesitant to call it gameplay. Suprisingly, after playing it myself I realized I'm having some fun. It's not really something that I'm looking for while playing, but I'm also not actively avoiding it. On the other hand, I don't really feel like it matters whether I'm playing on auto, or aiming myself. At this point I'm considering whether I should just stick to auto combat and enjoy the view.

5. "downtime gameplay" - I'm sticking both the ingame money-making, and the team comp crafting here. There's enough stuff to click through to make it a bit interesting, and the whole aspect of creating a team with synergy seems fine. I realize I've only seen a small part of it since it's tied to owned Nikkes, but it feels interesting enough. On the other hand, I still feel a bit cheated, since it seems like the level is the main thing that matters when deciding combat outcomes.

The point is that I feel that I'm playing mainly for the story, that's going to end soon. The fanservice is not good enough to hold the game on its own. And while the "build crafting" is fun, there's really no gameplay afterwards, where I see it in action. Sure, getting a new Nikke is fun, but when I start to think about why am I even recruiting a new character, I struggle to give myslef a good explanation.

Am I getting filtered? Does it get better at some point? Should I get more excited about the girls?
