I've kind of tuned out. But that's mostly a me problem. I should take a look and see what's being worked on these days. Know what I wanna play? Apparently that doom mod Total Chaos is getting and actual release. That sounds neat.

It's over-saturated. Punters have been sighing and asking for when the next good modern military shooter is going to come out. It'll just keep happening though, the vast majority of devs are only going to follow the leader regardless of what it is.

Indies seem to be moving onto Half Life clones now.

They peaked with Dust.

They don't have the same soul as the OGs.
