Not much in today's modern world is better than it was 30-40 years. Quality and craftsmanship on everything is basically non existent at this point and what replaced not only wasn't an improvement but an ultimate downgrade

I think this is a big reason why so many people in their late 20s and up are so depressed now is that we lived a lot of our formative years going through a era where every year or two everything seemed to improve in some way. This gave us a sort of blind enthusiasm for what the future would hold and quite obviously for the last decade and a half shit has stagnated and is either the same or somehow totally worse and it feels like we live in bizarro land. and if things today are better it’s in these absolutely worthless ways like a game being totally boring to play with shitty characters and no content but the graphics are ultra realistic. computers are more “powerful” but the OS is totally dogshit in a variety of ways or 20 times as invasive as it needs to be compared to what we had before that just worked and was reliable without extra bullshit involved. Consoles are way stronger but there is a fraction as many good games for them as the consoles before so it’s basically useless. We have the ability to stream movies and shows instantly and 99.9% of it is derivative boring garbage and usually full of weird identity politics crap in it which contributes nothing to the story. Everything is a monkey paw today.

I don’t know what disto to start with or how to know I’m getting it from a reliable source/hasn’t been tampered with or packed with something I don’t know about. I think I used Linux cinnamon or something a few years back for a bit for like an hour just to figure out how to run it from a flash drive. needed it to try and recover some old projects from an old hard drive. (I used to make primitive videogames) What would I get if I just want to check emails and browse a couple websites and don’t care about videogames?

Debian. Their entire philosophy is being as stable (I.E: having no crashes or bugs) as possible. The tradeoff is that you're seldom getting updates that aren't security related, so that cutting-edge driver people are fussing about might take years to arrive on Debian.

furthermore optimism or pessimism about the future is exaggerated because it's extrapolated because it's in the future and therefore exponential, if you are expecting things to improve 10% per year then in 20 years you think life will be 6.72x better than it is now. Likewise if it is going down 10% per year your brain extrapolates that it will be 6.72x worse in 20 years or 2.6x worse in 10 years.

The only good thing about this phenomenon is that if we hit 3 consecutive years where things got 10% better each year then society will have been largely remoralized and optimistic again. But I don't see that happening.

windows was always shit and the world we live in today where it's easier than ever for someone to jump into linux is absolutely fantastic, but retards like you act like everything is shit because you're too fucking dumb to do literally any reading about it yourself.
there are still good games being made! but retards like yourself likely cant be bothered to seek them out, meaning you likely only see whatever latest slop is being massively marketed with some "woke" controversy, which is of course spoonfed to you by your algorithm.

1.the enormous costs in R&D and supply chains aren't worth the niche benefits crt offers. motion clarity is a second order priority when most media consumed is either the 24 fps cinema standard where motion blur is a feature or 30fps disposable youtube videos. making videogames and livesports look marginally better in terms of motion clarity doesn't meet the high bar. oled is only barely viable because of it's similarity with lcd production.
2.crt's main strength is also one of its biggest flaws, flicker allows for motion clarity but it also directly contributes to giving people headaches from staring at a screen too long. for office workrs lcd was a godsend in usability
3. they never figured out how to reduce crt size to match larger dimensions. well to do middle class people want giant 70 inch screens to watch netflix on and at that scale the mass of crt goes from an annoyance to a hard problem you have to deal with.

at the end of the day marginally superior motion clarity just isn't that important, not to the scale of the supply chains and R&D cost in keeping around a significantly divergent alt display technology(let alone at a level that would be viable for consumer purchase). most media people consume is either the 24fps cinema standard where blur is intended or a disposable 30fps youtube video where it doesn't matter, any real world technical examination of motion occurs frame by frame.

You know how retrofuturistic movies like alien have extremely primitive computers even if they can do amazing futuristic shit like the blade runner 1 photo scene with a 1 million x 1 million resolution photo? We thought that was such a quaint misunderstanding of the future but I'm beginning to think that it's way smarter than the holographic future. Completely debloated software and hardware that can handle 100 years uninterrupted use in an industrial spacecraft, not a fucking java webpage that is orders of magnitude less efficient than a webpage from 30 years ago.

CRTs suck. You can posture as a grayscale chad and pretend you're owning me all you want, but CRTs were big, yet with tiny displays, heavy, prone to burn-in (hence screensavers) and they were uncomfortable to look at for extended periods of time. Their only real advantage in current year is that retro games look better on them, which is niche as hell. People jumped on LCDs as soon as they could, despite their early pains, for a good reason, and nobody makes new CRTs anymore for also a good reason. Nobody wants to bother with an inferior, clumsy technology when superior replacements exist.

There's just things LCDs aren't really capable of doing that phosphor guns can.

Analog is just that: a continuous stream of data that accounts for everything within its range. There are compromises when working with analog, sure (such as the susceptibility to distortion), but the infinitesimal amount of values that can be captured in an analog signal are impossible to match digitally. Digital output has to have some precision cutoff, it's the very nature of it.
