From steam forums by chinks outraged by the censorship
Many NPCs no longer die after boss fights/story sequences:
- Liu Cheng'en
- Liu Wenxiu
- Li Dingguo (he didn't die before either but the animation after beating him makes it appear so, whereas now he would talk to you, and Wuchang would even reply with voicelines)
- Concubine Yu Xia and the resurrected emperor Chongzhen
- White-robed elder Zhao Yun
In addition, all Ming soldiers not affected by the feathering are no longer hostile in chap 4 and cannot be fought/killed, and civilian/laborers cannot be targeted anymore.
Some of the changes, I can understand, for example Liu Wenxiu dying would go against the real history, and the Li Dingguo cutscene clarifies the situation a bit more. But some other really make no sense, for example Yu Xia and Chongzhen surviving, or that Zhao Yun doesn't disappear when you take away his chisel (the original ending was perfect before as he could finally rest in peace...)
I am not bashing the dev for making these narrative changes, as they have clearly been the victims of relentless cyberbullying by ultranationalists and internet trolls. But it's a shame they decided to sacrifice the quality of their story and narrative tones to appease these people who would not support or change their view of the game anyway.
