The entire foundation of liberalism and the left wing lies in idealism. They genuinely believe the messages of Disney cartoons and PBS Kids and that they alone can fix the evils of the world if they just act nice. That's why their actions seem so counter productive and retarded.

They only believe it because that's what their childhood stories told them. So then, when they see people telling them that that's actually the worst thing you can do, they think you are just an "evil bad person who doesn't want to help people."
What's super funny is that they push this rhetoric and all from a child-like worldview, but when they have been contested enough and pushed back against, their adult tendencies and actual view of reality kicks in and they loop around to being some of the most vile and dysgenic freaks possible that will advocate to "kill all nazis and bigots" (YOU being the bigot for disagreeing with the good guys, of course). They naturally become what they set out to oppose.
