unfortunately true.
its the difference between eating the cake your 12th birthday cake 10 years later, and eating a cake someone baked recently, but decorated it to look the same as your 12th birthday cake.

There is a bust of a man who seems distraught or bored with a screen shot from one game, while he (presumably the same man) is excited for the screen shot another game.
Perhaps the themes of the top game did not align with his tastes or the bottom game has better gameplay. Or, perhaps ur a nigger LOL

Dogshit analogy. The cake will degrade, the game won't.

How fragile is you nigga

Top: Doing what they could within the limitations of the era, sometimes in novel ways and pushing the envelope. A game no one else had done or seen before. SOVL.
Bottom: Fake nostalgiabait, does not innovate nor present anything interesting. Fails to even capture the charm of past games. SOVLLESS.

top looks great with them trying to the most with limited hardware
the bottom one looks ugly and the artist not even trying to create something appealing looking

nta and obligatory >food analogy
but mechanics age and PSX era is filled with dog shit tank controls and stiff camera controls (shoulder buttons to look sideways) and other bullshit
it was an experimental time for 3D games which gave us a lot of classics but also mixed with some dog shit
>>718147563 (OP) >top is an outdated game limited by the technology of its time, devs would've done more if they could >bottom is a modern game that intentionally restrains itself for artistic purposes, it's exactly what it wants to be
Understandable

People don't necessarily evaluate the product itself. Unironically Barny in HIMYM explains this phenomenon pretty well with "newer is always better".
The fake PSX game has a release date from 2020+ = good
The actual PSX game has a release date from before = old and dated and bad and icky.

mechanics do not age
They are the same back then that they are now.
YOU age and change. Sometimes not for the better.
This is why developers have to put yellow paint on everything, gamers in 2025 are so used to the "modern formula" that they cannot enjoy anything off the beaten path.
Old games were filled with experimental game design and gamers were expected to be adventurous and eager to try new things.

When old games were originally released players didn't really have a choice but to get accustomed to the controls and the game's rough edges. Players were much more forgiving because that was the only way to get to experience a horror game or a 3d platformer or an rpg or whatever. Even today we'll play older titles because they provide something unique, but don't pretend like you've never felt that many old games could've been improved upon with some QoL changes.
