"Imagination" isn't the right word for games like this. What makes them interesting is engagement.
For example, in Football Manager, you don't imagine anything, but you keep a mental map of a multitude of details, and a narrative forms when, for example, a specific player you consider important for a certain occasion gets injured before an important match, and things like that.
The more things there are to engage with, the more complex the structure of this mental map becomes, and the more engaged you feel with the game. Some people call this imagination, but you don't have to invent things out of thin air. If you literally have to invent things that aren't featured in the game in any way, then the game has no merit, it's just you playing around.

I like dorf fort. I'll run a fort at least once every couple of years. I bought the steam version just cause i'd gotten loads of free hours over older versions anyway. Games fine, performance updates were nice. The soundtrack is perfect honestly. Best part of the steam version.
Almost time for a new fort I think. Is there an easy way to change to a custom tileset in the steam version? Kinda miss some of the old ones.
