Parthenogenesis in "non-typical" animals like snakes, birds, and sharks, is typically only observed in sex-segregated zoo enclosures, in other words: you have an entire exhibit of nothing but female komodo dragons or sharks, no males, they become middle-aged, and this causes a kind of *emotional/hormonal distress in them that triggers parthenogenesis. They then give birth to a small clutch of male-only offspring that the all-female community dotes upon.
*One exception was a female komodo dragon from the Chattanooga Zoo. She had access to males, but she fucking hated all of them and refused to mate; instead opting to enact parthenogenesis by herself.
