As long as Bandai Namco doesn't fumble the ball again. It seems like they don't know what to do with the series most the time. Any successes seem like they go 'that went well, so lets try something different'. To their credit, at least they keep trying stuff. I like the card game.

Today I finished my first Digimon game. A few days ago I asked what the Story games were about and so I decided to play the very first one to verify. This game was actually pretty fun, going completely blind. I thought the gameplay loop of scanning a Digimon at the start of every encounter and then recruiting them pretty addicting. The amounts of walking and frequency of encounters are very high but it didn't bother me until the second beach area where you fight that turtle guardian at the end and the second visit to the factory where you have to search and fight three niggas. I think what I liked the most was the quest system: the game always gives you tips about how to trigger every quest available and it always follows the format "put specific digimon and maybe an extra conditional", these quests always have dialogues with the Digimon you put in the farm and as someone that never watched Digimon, I found those interesting to read. The quests themselves are just fetch quests most of the time but I usually have patience for this kind of stuff, it's almost therapeutic. This game has three main weakenesses in my vision. The 40 Digimon limit is way too small and I think this is the worst aspect of this game. Pokรฉmon RBY had a limit of 240 Pokรฉmon which is more than enough to have everything but here you have to keep deleting your Digimon to get more. The second weakness is how slow the menus are. I gave up looking up traits because it takes just too much time selecting a Digimon and pressing the Trait menu. The third one is that apparently the whole Digimon Egg mechanic is multiplayer exclusive. I didn't even know that there were Digimon that required online features to obtain until I was Platinum Rank and then I discovered that there was two different kinds of Digimon Eggs, the ones that are just Evo conditions and the multiplayer mechanic that's apparently a big feature considering how many eggs are in the menu. I gave up 100%'ing because that.

I say that about giving up but I know I could open a second instance in MelonDS and try to work my way to 100%, I just think it wouldn't be fun doing that now that I finished the game. I started with Tanemon which eventually ended up becoming a Lilamon. Since Lilamon is an Ultimate without an evolution, I was kinda hoping that there would be a fusion between her and Lillymon/Rosemon so that I could continue using her instead degenerating all the way back to Tanemon and following another line which is eventually what I did. I only got to evolve Tanemon into Taomon because I kept Lilamon capped at Level 46 hoping that the game would introduce me the Digiegg mechanic eventually so ended up degenerating very late into the game and I made sure to only evolve at Level 30 regardless of the stage so that I could keep the level stats. Moving away, I thought the farm was a cute mechanic even if I couldn't effectively use it. It reminds me of Super Training/Pokรฉmon-Amie in Pokรฉmon XY where you can see your Pokรฉmon working up in the subscreen while you're minding your business. There's just way too many limits which alongside the slow menus made me use the farm just as a quest hub after I hit the Digimon cap.

The early Story games are pure soul, but the menus are definitely painful. Which is kinda funny since most of the complaints about the games are about the maps or grinding, even though they're both realistically not that bad.

too bad about the 2 second delay as each digimon appears
>frequency of encounters
iirc turning massively increases your encounter rate, so you mitigate that by dragging the screen to see where you should go
>menuing
definitely a pain in the ass
training your digiman is horrific since you need to open the farm menu, enter the list, transfer them 1 by 1, train, then open the menu again and transfer them back 1 by 1
>deleting your digimon
iirc you could load them (i.e. consume them for an XP and stat boost), or was that starting from dawn/dusk
>>718291234
>degenerating
wtf you're supposed to do that whenever you hit a cap. the stat gains from level-ups are massive (your level resets on evolution too but you retain stats so you get a fuckton), while stat loss on devolution to baby is a mere 20~40% per stat
>quest hub
yeah you're supposed to get rid of digimon you don't like

Now if only they can get a decent writer for the recent Digimon anime. It's like the forgot how to do stories like they did for the early Digimon anime. It's like they can only must 12-18 episodes of story and the rest is monster-of-the-week in a 50+ anime series. You get these parts where you think the story is progressing and then 20+ monster-of-the-week episodes after and by the time you get back to the plot you kinda forget what happened previously since it's been a while since they touched the main story plot. It's odd since they keep making this same mistake for several anime series.

digimon world 2 is the closest, but it's undermined by
>excessive loading (every single attack is preceded by a loading screen, a single turn takes over a minute and makes the short battle BGM loop)
>annoying evolution mechanics (level caps that require you to sacrifice 2 mons then grind back up by ~30% inherited stats, no grinding shortcuts. oh and the DP grind too)
>unflattering plainness (barebones dungeon crawling, digibeetle does very little except clearing the occasional trap and shooting gay gifts)
not to mention how clunky the game is (transferring every item you buy, catching digimon with a full digi-beetle releases them instead of sending them to the server, heal block and other effects last until the end of the turn, making them useless if you go second, mastertyrannomon's status reset tech is glitched and doesn't work, etc.)

TS looks good. All the interviews with the producer that suggest they actually put thought into designing it, the producer straight up said they went over budget already though, if it plays well it can at least start making a name of itself instead of a dead franchise.

BB will probably be a more normal shounen anime, at least not as episodic as GG. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to debut the bad guy and MC's final evos in the vpet instead of the anime.

Alysion is s TCG mobage of Digimon, niche TCG of a niche franchise. I hope it does ok but I think this one's going to die, maybe if they release it in China too and make it one shared global version. I never tried the older Digimon mobages but afaik all the global ones died quite fast

Nah, they have no clue what made Adventure so popular, nor what made DW1 so memorable.

Adventure was popular because it was about kids learning to be friends both with each other and their digimon. Survive came close, but fucked up by being too mature still. People want digimon to bring out the best in you. They should bring the tamers together by giving them this digimon stuff to relate about.
Just like pokemon, pets stimulate the viewers' nurture and competition at the same time.

DW was memorable because of the exploration and mysteries, not because of pooping pets. The pooping and feeding and taking care of pets formed the bond with you and your digimon because it took thought and effort to make him evolve into something decent. But the pleasure came from actually progressing through an interesting and unexpected world with the pet you got. Once you could plot and optimize evolution and know the conditions and where to go it quickly lost most of its appeal. The worlds in the newer games are just trite and boring too. The sequels then just tried to replicate the pokemon gameplay formula, which was hopeless to begin with...

Pokemon became famous because kids are easy to addict to collecting. Digimon never pulled that off so its qualities were far to tricky to replicate over and over.

Yes the whole catching system was annoying, iirc
-You need space in your digimon slots to recruit the digimon
-You need to bring specific gift items for the digimon's attribute (you can eventually buy the all attribute ones, and higher evo stage digimon need better gifts)
-After buying gifts in town you have to remember to move them from storage into your digibeetle inventory
-You have a limited item inventory, and the gifts share inventory with your battle items, dungeon trap items
-You have to shoot the items at the digimon in the dungeon, each shoot action causes the enemy to move so you can't get the digimon depending on the random dungeon layout or have to deal with low recruit rates
-You need to kill that digimon last in battle but it's still not 100% recruit at max hearts

this why I love champรญon Digimons with key pre-evolution, so I can ignore weight, that is why for example:

>Biyomon -> Kokatorimon
>+1000hp
>+3 car mistakes
>Biyomon

I can ignore weight and feeding all at all, plus it can evolve into Piximon so:

>+15 care mistakes
>0 - 15 weight
>+95 Happiness

I simply ignore feeding to get the care mistakes and just make sure to use the bathroom to avoid Sukamon.

Centaurmon is also good one since you can get him form Agumon and Gabumon and it can evolve to Giromon which allows me to ignore weigh and care mistakes

alternatively, there's a chance when an enemy uses a tech you can learn. success rate depends on the slot number tech's specialty occupies
