Nowadays yes, almost everything has an Australian server. But there's so few people in this part of the world compared to US and Europe, only the most popular stuff is populated.

You pretty much have the decision made for you about what you can play by the decisions of everyone else. You don't get the luxury of playing old games and finding populated servers like in NA and EU. You can still join NA and EU servers but the ping is usually 200-300ms, so competitive games are out. I'm connected to the EU turtle wow server at the moment and the ping is 259ms

This depends entirely on the game. Mainstream stuff definitely does, anything older but lets you host servers depends on regional interest. Maybe people do organized sessions during the weekends for anything more anemic, anything that still get a modest amount of players in the US or EU is going to be more starved here like KF1. I imagine with fightan we're at least closer to Asia than the US if need be, but I took to playing some co-op games anyway since stuff like Monster Hunter and EDF are far less dependent on ping.

In DayZ's defense, its modding community has been going nuts lately. We usually get a new map every few months now. The big hype recently-ish was a California map and an Ohio map.
We're getting Takistan 2 later this year or early next year.

It does suck that we're stuck with it but with how far its come, at least we have it compared to ugly casualized slop like Tarkov and Pubg.

I dabbled around a bit in some PVE servers with orienteering and innawoods larping. Most SP games that I've tried modding can barely reach that standard without some caveats. The crafting and metabolic system where you drop dead on an empty stomach is retarded but the other aspects are quite neat. And the shortfalls can be made up elsewhere via said mods. The fact that no one has managed to get close to what is essentially a paid mod in itself is downright pathetic. And the ones who cuck themselves out before the finish line don't even deserve the money that they ripped off to get there.

It's not an understatement that modders have clearly carried this game to where it is today. Because you can't expect a company that sells training simulators to the Balkans to do the same without asking for a handout.
