if you think that's egregious wait until you actually start reading stuff in japanese that you previously read in english and you realize straight up 90% of the writing is completely different, with the EN version being a literal fanfic without any exaggeration
which is annoying because any examples take too much text to explain so people would rather post more blatantly egregious shit like picrel, but it's still absurd
two examples come to mind right off the bat, the first one was on the mushoku tensei LN where there's a borderline official gaslighting situation where the fandom in the west has convinced themselves that before getting splattered by a truck, the MC fapped to recordings of his 5 year old niece, which is false, all the original did was he fapped to loli (and didn't even specify if it was 3d or 2d), yet the fandom still thinks "oh the author just edited out the original line because it was too offensive"
so from where did it come from? from seven seas straight up making shit up on the first versions of the localization print
it was not even on the digital distribution (unless they edited it out within a day or so) and it's only on some very early editions as well, but it was straight up lying
another example is on eminence where they effectively cut out almost all parts of the monologue the MC has explaining how the magic system works, and the few they don't cut they mistranslate, causing a fuckton of plot holes
that one is notable because cid is extremely autistic about combat so the explanations are literally part of the experience like you are seeing some efficiencyfag's explanations on how he grinded some character to level 99 in 2 hours, but if that trend is to be expected then it would mean basically no power/magic systems are being properly translated causing them to look sloppy and poorly written on purpose
and oh boy you really notice this kind of shit once you actually start reading in japanese
