Its a lot of fun imo and I'm someone who doesn't even necessarily like wind waker that much.
With items randomized it makes it feel much more like a proper seafaring adventure. I like to randomize all treasure chart chests so it makes the grappling hook and hauling treasure from the sea floor very important. Though thats a bit much for most people so they'll do no charts randomized or just triforce charts or something like that.
I like doing randomized cave and dungeon entrances too so for example tower of the gods can be found in a random hole in the ground.
It makes exploring the sea and checking different islands tons of fun

Way ahead of you. It's mechanically inferior to TP, but more fun to play. I actually enjoy sailing, but I don't enjoy the constant "HIYA! HIYA! HIYA!" of riding Epona in TP or Wolf Link's stupid jingling cuff. And TP is my 2nd favourite Zelda after WW.

I'm doing a 100% run minus Knuckles (because no access to Tingle Tuner), keeping track of miss-able figurines. Next one up is the Wizzrobe mini boss in Wind Temple. Having save states eased my mind getting the Helmaroc King's picture.

They should've allowed us to give Medli the golden feathers

I remember when I played Wind Waker, I had high expectations because of the story. Everyone said it was great. To my surprise, it was quite lackluster.
Then I learned the hard way that Majora's Mask is the only Zelda game with a good story.

I just completed the Second Quest in the HD version yesterday. Game is much more enjoyable to 100% when you don't have to take all of those damn pictographs.
I was also doing a Hero Mode run this time around and it made combat much more engaging. I only had to really play it safe in the early game though since you're so railroaded at that point that you can't really go exploring for heart pieces. That first Darknut you fight in the Tower of the Gods really fucked me up. Shame the lack of heart drops doesn't really matter in the late game when you get more heart containers and stock up on potions.

Overall though the game's breddy gud. Still prefer Ocarina and Majora. Medli best girl.

Also question for you anons, did any of you actually get 1000 hits on Orca?

Oh, and don't wait for A button parries obviously. Always hold up the shield after slashing for a bit. It's a more consistent counter, easy to press the wrong button getting nervous with the A button presses.

You don't actually get anything for it, Orca just recognises you as the superior swordsman. You do get a heart piece for landing 500 hits though.
I found that the best way to get a lot of hits in is to let him back you into a corner and repeatedly use forward thrusts. Doing this lets you pretty consistently get about 20-25 hits in one cycle before he counterattacks. Also what >>718331026 said. Immediately backing up and using your shield when he attacks basically guarantees that you'll never get hit.

Man never saw myself talking about the intricacies of the combat system in Wind Waker of all games but here I am lol.
