His design is a bit busy after getting demonized, with his face scars and tief marks overlapping, his haircut isn’t that great either. As for why he is boring, I think it’s just how his story is. He is a good dude who sacrificed himself for a good reason, and has already come to terms with it. He has no real conflicts and he doesn’t need to be convinced of anything. He just does whatever you tell him. Additionally he doesn’t need to even be in your party to do his own personal quest so a lot of players won’t even hear his opinions on his own story, he’s just completely unnecessary. Finally he is a warlock which is great for a protagonist class, but less so for a companion, so he doesn’t usually get picked in a party comp compared to a wizard/cleric like shart or gale.

I wish. That was what I thought his character was going to be when I first played considering he's secretive about being a warlock early on. The blade of frontiers, hero of the people, that actually derives his real power from doing the dirty work for devils. But then you meet karlach and he's instantly ready to break his warlock contract because she's an "innocent" devil.

At least you can kind of play him as evil if chosen as the PC. I'm planning on going evil ending at the last minute.

Every character in BG3 feels like special OC of some Tumblr DnD group that watched too much Critical Role (meaning more than 1 second of it).

Lae'zel is ironically probably the best written one since there's literally nothing special about her and she just happens to be a random githyanki warrior that looks better than 99% of her race, so actually props to that annoying fat gay faggot proud cuck writer. She does have some annoying cringe reddit moments though (her sleeping with Astarion if you reject her to spite you or the forced as fuck abortion/pro-choice dialogue).

Shadowheart is also okay, but she feels too central to the story, similar to Lae'zel in a way, but you can skip the creche meanwhile you literally cannot skip the Temple of Shar dungeon and if you do not take her there she leaves your party, pretty much a mandatory character (which is she has the most respecs statistically since people change her to someone else).

Rest is just annoying. Gale became alright after they basically removed him trying to be gay with you within minutes of meeting him, but he also is an OC Gary Stu romancing Mystra which is extra funny beceause Elminster is literally in the game too and is his mentor.

The worst though HAS to be Halsin, he literally has no role other than to be perverted bi bara bear who wants to fuck everything.

Wyll's initial role in the game is quite literally that of subservience. That already turns the audience against him. And it's made even worse by how his efforts to claim independence is less than successful right from the start.
His eye and scarred face is also not terribly attractive. It's not like scars and stuff can't look good conceptually, and it probably could look better if Larian were better at visuals. But it doesn't look great. Also, him being scarred alongside being in a subservient role is not a strong combo for Wyll since it just makes him appear even more pathetic.


People can make excuses for Wyll. Claiming it's all racism because he is black, or because he is too good or moral and that women only like bad guys or other cope.

The music is apparently designed to be unobtrusive and to purposely stay in the background. The sole exception is Raphael's boss fight where they remembered that music can be fun.

Multiclassing is really good warlock, sorcerer, bard and paladin all work well together. A lot of builds benefit from getting 1 level in cleric, and sometimes its worth going for 3 levels in rogue for the thief extra bonus action. I did 6 levels in berserker and 6 in open palm monk for karlach and she did tons of damage throwing. You could do 1 level in trickster cleric for shart and the rest in rogue or ranger if you want your character to do something else. I haven't touched the new classes they added so I'm sure there's other synergies there.

Yes and no. 5e is still the yellow school bus of DnD but it generally rewards specialization. Therefore as long as your multiclassing serves this goal you're good. Dipping is obviously a thing in here too, I personally keep it on the minimum for RP reasons but you can come up with powerful builds even if you limit yourself.

Various companions can be the party thief with some alteration. But my Urchin Background (Proficiency in Sleight of Hand and Stealth) Monk (high DEX - which governs the said skills; high WIS - useful for Perception) also perma-benched the vampire from the get go. Since he's a Rogue he automatically gets Expertise (doubled Proficiency bonus on 2 Skills you're familiar with) but that's not an advantage you can't overcome later on. Especially if you get a 3 level Rogue/Thief dip yourself, which is extremely popular with Monk due to the +1 Bonus Action but everything it offers (Expertise, Sneak Attacks, Cunning Actions, Resistance to Fall Damage) just fits like a glove. So this could be an example of a synergy where a dip further empowers the already powerful base class and you can pick a Background to it that fits the build mechanically and role-playing-wise as well.
