Dark Souls Help Thread
Okay I fucking give up. I've been at this boss for a week now and it's just getting stunlocked over and over again. This is my first ever playthrough of Dark Souls and it's really pushing me to use a guide because the game is shitting on me for not knowing how to "deal" with this boss. Trial and error has only gotten me as far as discovering that I have to go at its leash points but whenever I break one, the boss DOESN'T STOP HITTING ME (even with a high stability shield it eats it all away) and when I either get blown the fuck out or pushed into the holes, the last bonfire is literally another zone away. So now I'm asking this board first before breaking my rule and looking it up online. Game fucking great though, it lives up to the hype. Also, I'm playing it on the 360 version so maybe it's different.

There is a bonfire behind an illusory wall in the lava with the dragon butts. It's in the gazebo/building thing closest to the vines you use to leave the lava and go up towards the fog wall.

There's a bonfire right next to the boss. Anyways, immediately rush the left one and destroy it, then quit out. You should be in front of the fog wall. Go back in and destroy the right one. Quit out. Then go back in and destroy the center one.

Two hand the heaviest shield you got, it won't help with the bullshit swipes but it will block. Also do right side first then left side. Also when doing left side you could cheese it with arrows from the back or you could jump from the back to the front in a diagonal pattern (look it up on youtube) and save yourself numerous headaches.

Also for the final central run, approach while veering off to the right to bait out his right hand swipe and slam. Then walk off towards the path, no need to roll or jump if you are farther right than you think you need to be.

The non-lava part of Izalith, which includes the fog gate, is due north of where that Bonfire is. There are two burnt pagodas in the lava field and the Bonfire is behind an illusory wall at the pagoda farther from the Demon Ruins entrance to Lost Izalith.

Not that anon but the best bossfight for me was the Ornstein and Smough one. It's like an upgraded version of the Gargoyles fight but much cooler and actually changes the way how each one fights. Coolest however is the Nito fight, remembering about divine weapons being strong against skeletons was a revelation for me and it working is the coolest moment I had for the game.

Compared to Dark Souls all the other games are pretty linear with just some branching paths occasionally. It’s really a shame that they didn’t dive harder into refining the world design of DaS for later games, even Elden Ring isn’t technically as joined together despite being open world.

I hate people who complian somethings too easy as you can always handicap yourself, but I felt the Armour upgrades and 20 flasks broke 1. That and I fucking loathed that first run in the Crystal cave. They are all amazing games though, and as a late comer I acknowledge I don't give DeS and DS1 enough respect for pioneering.

Correct me if I'm wrong of what I've written down. Basically, Oolacile is the place I need to actually go and that I am the "Artorias" she talks about being heroic and saving people and once I do fight Artorias, he's actually some evil bastard or something who possesses a similar "hero's soul" like all heroes do hence her confusion. Few characters ever talk about Oolacile but the key hint for me is the lady inside the golem (not the fat knight) in the basin once saved, talks about it and where she's from. The golem she was in is the same in Duke Archives and Crystal Caves which one of them drops, which as it says, is from Oolacile and is a key item into finding it. Andre talks about Artorias specifically succumbing to an affliction and dying in the Darkroot area and his grave being there along with the dog DROPS the Covenant that allows you to do Abyss thing with the Four Kings which was a gigantic black hole. Ergo, I have to find something similar in Darkroot.

From my expectation, the Artorias bossfight is going to be like a PVP battle but Four King Style where it's in a dark place you have to discover since he's also known as the Abysswalker and that he's actually not dead but somewhat lost or trapped and gone completely insane from being in the Abyss for too long.

The cover of the DLC add-on page in the Xbox marketplace has him looking down in a black background like the Four Kings and since he is referred to as the Abysswalker, and some NPCs literally yell you that the abyss got to him then that pretty much is almost confirmation. I know you have to hunt him down and there's a lot of hype surrounding said boss fight. I have some notes about him which is tied to the figuring out where he is. I think I either drew a conclusion that either Artorias isn't actually dead just trapped in the Abyss or he is dead and the Abyss took his soul and reanimated him. From what I understand the Abyss is the central point of the Dark Soul, a type of Lord Soul that Man is derived from, which is Kaathe's major plan to bring about a new Age to replace all the beings that benefited from the other Souls that brought about the Age of Fire, which is has been losing its overall power. My question is why the fuck is the game treating like the Age of Fire is a bad thing that needs to be replaced by evil fuckers and consequently the humans.
